About us

Founded in Brisbane in 2015, Workforce Resilience (WR) is a specialist consulting firm focused on delivering contemporary risk, security, critical incident , emergency management and WHS strategies and solutions. WR will partner with your team to ensure the safety, security and preservation of your key assets (people, infrastructure, information, intellectual property and business reputation) and will provide evidence based reasoning for the investment of time and resources into developing and enhancing critical incident, emergency management and security response capabilities particularly around planning, business continuity, risk management and physical security initiatives. It is no longer sufficient for your organisation to simply plan or prepare only for fire evacuations in your workplace. All incidents must be considered which would be likely to create: - Disruption (or significant disruption) to business and activities. - Impacts on the safety of occupants (staff, visitors, customers & stakeholders) - Media coverage or negative publicity. WR delivers niche, tailored services and solutions into a broad range of sectors including: Commercial and Residential Facilities, Retail and Shopping Centres, Finance, Health, Education, Entertainment and Sporting Venues, Licenced Premises, Transport, Resources, Government, Legal, Law Enforcement, Security, Construction and Critical Infrastructure. Workforce Resilience specialises in delivering contemporary innovative workforce strategies and solutions that will assure best practice around all elements associated with security and safety, particularly the prevention of, preparation for, response to and recovery from incidents and emergencies that are likely to impact negatively on organisations.

  • There can be no doubting that Security Guards play an integral role in the protective security strategy for our #shoppingcentres & #retail precincts across #Australia & #NewZealand. It is a tough, demanding, & challenging job. And it is often made even more difficult by the communities high expectations that our security guards will be able to intervene effectively to help keep us safe & secure, even though they have limited training, limited legislated powers, no accoutrements (tools), & relatively poor pay. The NZ Security Services Good Practices Guide (June 2020) on page 22, clearly states that “property & mobile security patrol guards do not have police powers. Under NZ law, they have the same powers as members of the public”. It also states that “the primary purpose of property or mobile security patrol guards is to Detect, Deter, Observe, & Report”. “The instruction to observe & report is founded on the principle that security guards are not police, they are unarmed, & they do not have any more law enforcement authority than any other member of the NZ public.” (also on page 22). There are also #WHS considerations at worksafe.govt.nz which requires that ‘a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers, & that other persons are not put at risk by its work. This is called the ‘primary duty of care’. Remember, 80% of #violence and #aggression occurs when security & retail teams intervene in #theft, or when they are trying to stop someone from leaving (which is the case in the 2 incidents relative to this post). There are several really important questions that MUST be URGENTLY considered by Employers, Shopping Centres, #CrowdedPlace Operators, & particularly the New Zealand Government & Australian Government 1️⃣ To comply with obligations under #Worksafe (NZ or AU) are your #SecurityGuards set up with the best training, tools, & strategies to ensure that they can do their job safely at work, so that they can go home safely to their loved ones at the end of their shift? 2️⃣ Do your security teams clearly know & understand their roles & responsibilities around Detect | Deter | Observe | Report? Do you ensure that you continually prioritise the message that team member, security guard, & customer safety must always come before stock loss or preventing someone from leaving. 3️⃣ Are the NZ & AU governments ensuring that they are enabling their communities to succeed by providing the most appropriate legislated powers for #Security Guards, so they can assist #police in keeping crowded places safe? If we need our guards to do more, Govt. needs to regulate advanced training, & provide appropriate legislation to enable professional guards to support police & do their jobs more effectively & safely. Our thoughts are with the guards impacted in these incidents in NZ. Please remember…YOU WIN, WHEN THEY LEAVE’. Workforce Resilience (AU & NZ)

Retail liquor stores and bottle shops are a indelible part of our societies across the globe, and can be found on many streets, in shopping centres, and even in #supermarkets in almost every community here in Australia and New Zealand. Over the last couple of months as part of the National Retail Association Crime Committee meetings with politicians, police, and retailers in each state and territory across Australia, we’ve regularly heard from the heads of security and loss prevention in our retail drinks organisations, about the significant loss, and frequent violence occuring in stores across the country. It is an alarming and frightening situation, made even more concerning for me with my nephew managing a BWS store in Brisbane. Working in a bottle shop or liquor store can be a tough job, and it is important that retail team members in these environments are afforded the best strategies possible to keep safe in their workplaces. This includes physical and technological security activations, in addition to excellent face to face #communications and #dealingwithconflict training. We should all be concerned about the risk to the safety of our families, friends, neighbours, and community members who work in retail, and particularly in retail stores selling alcohol. The safety of these team members when they are at work matters more than any stock loss ever could. Thanks Retail Drinks Australia for discussing the safety of your team members and customers, and security of your retail stores last week at the Retail Drinks Australia Summit. And good work NEIL and Edmund for being part of this important discussion. Workforce Resilience #training #retail #police #liqourstore #bottleshop #shoppingcentres #safety

Chief Transformation Officer at Foodbank WA

Like many organisations the safety of our team and clients is so important to us at Foodbank WA, so it was great to recently have Scott Harris from Workforce Resilience to come and speak to our Foodbank branch managers and Op’s team, sharing with us some of their training initiatives that help to create a safer and more secure workplace for our amazing team, and our clients. It was fantastic how the training aligned with our #values around #empathy, #respect and #kindness.   Scott also shared with us some insights and basic principles from his many years in the Police Force and in industry around managing and deescalating challenging situations with individuals, customers/clients. The training was extremely well received by all of our team, with positive feedback received all-round. Thank you, Scott, for taking time out of your busy schedule to spend the day with the team and for also providing your services to us pro-bono, much appreciated and I can understand why your services are utilised with so many of the major retailers.     #greatpeople #positivecollaboration #thelittleguyinthemiddle #positivechange
