Thanks so much for the opportunity KPMG High Growth Ventures. It was a pleasure meeting all the founders, and I hope they left with some valuable insights.
Last week, we wrapped up our final founder-focused workshop on 'Mastering Pre Series A Fundraising' at the KPMG Offices. The event was a huge success, with an oversubscribed number of attendees eager to learn from our experts about the best practices for preparing for a raise. Our goal is to support scale-ups and startups in achieving high growth, and it was it was great to hear from founders about the value they received from the workshop. With more planned for the new year, be sure to join our mailing list (link in the comments below) to stay updated. For now, here’s some of the key learnings from our experts 👇 🏦 Optimising your company tax structures can make or break a deal. The right one can support IP protection and beneficial tax outcomes, but the wrong one can be costly and time-consuming to unravel. Investors seek the path of least resistance to investing, so aligning with their requirements saves time and energy, enabling a clear focus on your idea. ⚖ Getting your house in order is imperative, from a fully populated data room to R&D documents. Time kills deals, so if the data room isn’t ready before you raise, the chances of closing become slimmer. Importantly, if your information has gaps, be prepared to explain why and how you will address it. 💹 Financial modelling should demonstrate more than just your projections. It needs to create confidence in the ultimate ROI for investors. Including what your company's financial impact will be on their bottom lines is essential. 💪 Selling a potential investor on why your tribe is essential to your success. How are you helping this investor to improve their self-view? A strong tribe can significantly enhance your appeal to investors. 🤼 Building a people strategy takes time but is critical. If set up right from the beginning, it can help attract and retain the right staff. 🤔 Getting on a VC’s radar includes clarifying the initial 'why now' to the exit point. Investors want drive, a deep understanding, and a strong 'why' behind your business. 🎤 Perfecting your pitch deck is important, but being able to sell your story is even more crucial. Your pitch deck is an asset, but you should be the star of your VC meeting. An immense thank you to John Locke, Gareth Brown, David Morris, Josh Geelan, Anthony Bonney, Anthony Sochan, Kieran O'Neill, Alan Jones and Ben Armstrong for their time and for sharing their insights. Stay tuned for more to come! Kylie Little Amanda Price Sophie Ritchie Imogen Hunter Max Francis Rachel Smith Arjun Agarwal 🚀 Giulia Colaci Michael Chandler Gabby Lee-Sinclair

LPs should explore how GP incentives shape the outcome of the fund... A fascinating read from Jamin Ball on VC incentives and what it can mean for a fund. If a fund size balloons, the focus can shift from optimising carry (20%) to maximising management fees (2%). Jamin’s framework—“Are you working with a 2% or a 20% firm?”—resonates deeply. For LPs, it’s a call to assess how GP incentives align with long-term value creation. Highly recommend this one for anyone navigating the evolving dynamics of venture capital 👇

Last week, I had the pleasure of representing RiverX at the annual Tidal Ventures event. It was an incredible evening of connecting with industry leaders, discussing emerging market trends, and exploring the ever-evolving landscape of venture capital. Venture capital can play a pivotal role in a diversified portfolio, providing access to high-growth opportunities and innovative companies at the forefront of transformative fields. With family offices and high-net-worth investors increasingly seeking uncorrelated, enhanced portfolio returns, venture capital offers a unique long-term perspective. For example, we’re excited to be investing in an early-stage seed round for a clean-energy company that has gained significant traction, with over 80 clients across Australia, Asia, and North America. The company is now poised for strategic international expansion into Western Europe, a market 17 times larger than Australia. This is one example of the potential venture capital brings as a complementary component of a holistic investment strategy. It was fantastic to be with friends and colleagues at the Tech Council of Australia’s National Tech Summit in Melbourne this week for an inspiring series of discussions on the future of Australia’s tech sector. A highlight was hearing Jo Dooley, Tom McMahon, Wendell Keuneman and Dr Aengus Tran speak about the immense potential for Australia in the AI tech stack. The panel spoke about how Australia can leverage its unique strengths - such as its vibrant startup ecosystem, renewable energy resources, multicultural society and strategic location - to become a key player in the global AI economy. The discussion built on a new report Microsoft released last week that identified Australia’s strengths in AI applications, data and data centres as the areas where we will be most competitive on the global stage. Take a look at the report to explore how we can collectively drive AI innovation, create new jobs and ensure sustainable growth in Australia: https://lnkd.in/gdUqSdWW Kate Seward Liz Fitch Lewis M.
