Few things make us happier than seeing our members and partners recognised for their exceptional work. This week, long-time Smart Cities Council member and #Privacy expert, Nicole Stephensen joins Helios Salinger as a Partner, bringing to the firm her years of experience in privacy program management, public policy creation, and regulation in Australia and abroad. Nicole serves on the IAPP regional board and is a Fellow of the Australian Information Security Association (AISA). At the cutting edge of smart cities tech and data programs, she’s worked with local governments, their industry partners and vendors to innovate responsibly, reframing privacy as an opportunity rather than a barrier. Her leadership in privacy has supported award-winning projects, such as the Ipswich City Council's Transparency and Integrity Hub, and has underpinned key initiatives for the cities of City of Darwin, City of Moreton Bay, and City of Melbourne. https://lnkd.in/g88Ttasx #Jobs #Appointments #Privacy #DataPrivacy #SmartCitiesCouncil #SCCMemberNews

Smart Cities Council was invited last Thursday, 27th February to present at the Future Facilities Management (FM) National Summit: Technology in FM run by Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA) about Emerging Building Technology and Smart Cities Development, including how technologies assist FM and the upskilling required in the Property and FM industry. The day had many interesting themes including topics ranging from putting together value propositions and use cases, Electrification in the Built Environment specifically for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R), overlaps with sustainability, data challenges, uptake and trends in technology, and key barriers currently being encountered in adoption and implementation. The FM industry is quite unique and specialist factors influence outcomes including the diverse range of facilities, condition and state, property asset registers and outsourcing trends. Karandeep Singh Chadha (KC) and Matt Gijselman represented SCC alongside Craig Lawton 🎗️ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Mathieu Laguë Schneider Electric. Whilst there is no doubt that FM is at the centre of sustainability, digitalisation, operational efficiency, safety and enhancing citizen experience, to unlock the full potential of IoT, AI, digital twins, satellite, mobile technology and many more emerging technologies, there is a need for: 🔹 Stronger alignment between technology providers, FM leaders and policymakers 🔹 A workforce ready for the data-driven future of FM 🔹 Scalable strategies that go beyond pilots and into real-world deployment 🔹 Significant support and benefits monetised and articulated 🔹 Understanding there is risk of failure and accepting not all innovations will be a success in the first go 🔹 Appreciating risks with outsourced suppliers and de-centralised operations, including data governance challenges Were you there? What were your key takeaways from the event? #FM #FacilitiesManagement #SmartBuildings #Technology #SmartCities #Capability #Upskilling
