I always knew that building a world class financial management platform would be hard. I still think that, but it’s definitely easier when you have incredible customers (OwnHome, Constantinople, Lyka) to help chart the course. Towards the back end of last year, we kept hearing in customer conversations the struggle of knowing exactly how much cash is in the business at one time. - "I need to use different banks and currencies but it means I've got no idea how much cash we've got" - "Our entire cash balance is held together by tracking it in spreadsheets" - "Primary yield is great but I wish I could see my other accounts in the platform as well" Over the past couple of months at Primary, this is exactly what we’ve focused on: unlocking a centralised view of all cash across the business. Rates are coming down and venture capital is back on the rise again. Data we’re seeing first-hand at Primary is signalling that we’re moving further away from 2023 lows in Australian venture activity. We’ve looked closely at the inverse relationship between central bank interest rates and venture capital investment: when rates are high, investments in risky asset classes like venture are less appealing. And now with two cuts so far in 2025, we’re noticing venture capital investor confidence rebound in a significant way. At Primary, we’re observing this through inflows of new funds from our venture-backed client base. In Q1, we had our biggest gross deposits month on record. We put this down to a higher number of companies closing more rounds and choosing to be more intentional with the way they manage and deploy their cash. Our newest clients aren’t looking to park their funds with a big 4, they’re actively searching for the best rates and highest efficiency solutions in market. They’re leveraging their fintech stack in ways that create real value for the business.
