🖤🗨️ Noongar Language Course with Kalyakoorl (Always/Forever) 💛❤️ The Boordiya Bidi team here at MercyCare organised a series of engaging sessions designed to delve into the context of the Noongar language over several weekly sessions led by Dylan Collard! Dylan is a Wadjak Balardong Noongar man, who founded Kalyakoorl because he is passionate about ensuring Noongar language continues kalyakoorl (always/forever). Noongar language is a testament to resilience, despite the challenging historical backdrop marked by unjust policies, including the collective impact of Assimilation Policies in Australia. Today, it is considered a language in revitalisation, Kalyakoorl, is committed to being a part of this meaningful journey. For Aboriginal people, the acquisition of language holds profound significance. It serves as a cornerstone for identity, resilience, and connection. Recent research validates what Aboriginal people have long understood: there is a tangible link between the wellbeing of community and the ability to access ancestral language.👣♥️ #NoongarLanguage #Kalyakoorl #BoordiyaBidi #MercyCare #AncestralLanguage

"Western Australia is a great state, let’s make it a fairer one too." The Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS) has introduced a campaign that addresses how the current cost of living is impacting every aspect of daily life, hitting the most vulnerable the hardest and overwhelming already stretched community services. The #MakeWAFairCampaign calls for immediate and long-term cost-of-living relief through targeted support, secure housing with rent stabilisation and eviction protections, expanded early childhood education, strengthened Child and Family Hubs, and sustainable funding for community services. MercyCare is in support of the Make WA Fair Campaign - every day we support over 500 West Australians impacted by the current cost of living and housing crisis. We call on state and federal governments to prioritise the needs of their communities now, calling an end to disadvantage across our state. 🌈 Building an Inclusive & Safe Environment for the LGBTIQA+ Community 🌈 We were fortunate enough to have Let's Queer The Air join us recently to deliver their 'All the Colours of the Rainbow' training session which focused on deepening our knowledge and understanding of the LGBTIQA+ community. Regardless of our existing familiarity with the topic, this session was an eye-opener, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity and allyship. With many of our service users identifying as LGBTIQA+, expanding our awareness is not just important—it’s essential. It’s crucial to amplify the voices of those with lived experiences, while also recognising that it’s not solely their responsibility to educate others. As allies, we must actively seek knowledge, promote social change, and continually reflect on our personal and professional practices. One key takeaway? Everyone’s experience is unique. If you're unsure, ask. It’s okay to make mistakes—what truly matters is the effort we put in to learn and improve. #Inclusion #LGBTIQA #Allyship #DiversityMatters #MercyCare #LetsQueerTheAir

I am very excited to announce that I have officially graduated from Curtin University with both a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resources Management and Industrial Relations), with distinction. This achievement holds significant weight for me, especially as I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in late 2023, four years into my course. Up to that point, I hadn’t realised that the struggles I endured while studying weren’t common amongst my peers, and that I had been exerting ten times the amount of effort into assignments, workshops and lectures to merely accomplish what others would find easy. Of those that are diagnosed, only a small portion of ADHDers attend university. From that, an even smaller number successfully graduate due to the immense difficulty studying can place on our limited executive functioning capacity, which relates to the ability to organise, self-regulate and process stimuli. As a result, burnout is common among ADHDers, myself included, and makes completing a tertiary degree extremely challenging. Knowing this makes my achievement that bit more special, and I am immensely proud (and in awe) of younger versions of myself for not only finishing my degrees (which is a big commitment in itself) but excelling. I am also proud to work in a place like MercyCare who has been nothing short of accommodating of my ADHD. The support I have received from them, in addition to the support I have received from my loved ones throughout the course of my studies, spurs me on to continue to succeed and dismantle barriers for people like me along the way 😊
