Tune into Episode 4 of VAXXED! BASE Deputy Director Dr Seth Cheetham was interviewed by Rachel Williamson about our #mRNA manufacturing services and the mRNA Cancer Vaccine Centre at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology AIBN, The University of Queensland. ▶ https://lnkd.in/gQanfJxQ
💉 Episode 4 of VAXXED is live 💉 Cancer vaccines are an area that anyone who is anyone is getting into, but it's a field led largely by academics, not-for–profits, and specialist researchers. So this week we go back to basics - science that is. Australia may not have many cancer vaccine biotechs but – as we pointed out in episode one with the godfather of cancer vaccines, Dr Ian Frazer – it has heft in its research. Dr Seth Cheetham from the The University of Queensland's BASE Facility, a specialist mRNA manufacturing lab, explains why they went from COVID19 to cancer. And Dr Shalin Naik from the WEHI (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research) explains why he's bringing back a spectre of the past, and why he believes it could be the winner of this biotechnology cage match. Like all independent media, we survive and thrive on your support. There is more to building an mRNA cancer vaccine than just making one work outside the lab. You've also got to be able to make them and be able to do so quickly, perhaps using an individual patient's own biological material depending on the therapeutic. Dr Seth Cheetham from the The University of Queensland's BASE Facility mRNA manufacturing hub is heading up the effort to make mRNA for research and clinical trial use. But they are going deep on cancer - why? Because the data is showing that this time, the investment is worth it. Tune in to episode 4 of VAXXED on Wednesday. Like all independent media, we survive and thrive on your support. It seems like #mRNA vaccines have finally cracked the challenging Flu B strains, paving the way for widespread adoption. While earlier mRNA flu vaccines were highly effective against A strains their efficacy against B strains fell short. Now reconfigured vaccines from first Moderna and now GSK (partnered with CureVac) have demonstrated non-inferiority to conventional flu vaccines. Given the scalability and rapid manufacture enabling rapid adaptation to seasonal strains, it's not hard to envision mRNA capturing a large section of Flu market in the near future. https://lnkd.in/gpt4ayMC
