Would you like to see your local council roll out green bins? ♻ Green food and garden organic bins — known as FOGO bins — have been heralded as the answer to diverting these materials away from landfill, where they take up space and generate methane. However, many councils are falling behind on organic waste targets. Just 11 of the 78 councils in Queensland offer green bins for garden waste. No councils currently collect food waste in Queensland. In NSW, 57 councils already have FOGO green bins, with the program converting organic material into compost to reduce landfill waste. Their state parliament has just passed legislation to mandate council collection of food waste by July 2030. Reporting by Isebella Ross for ABC News NSW and Julius Dennis for ABC News Queensland. Several images of the monarch alongside Mr Zelenskyy have been released which show the pair shaking hands and smiling in what appears to have been a cordial moment. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted a summit to shore up support for Mr Zelenskyy after an astonishing Oval Office meltdown with US President Donald Trump that left many uncertain about where the once-staunch allies stood. Starmer said Britain, France and Ukraine have agreed to work on a ceasefire plan to present to the United States. The pages of February's best books promise a lot: a queer love story full of incisive observation about life, a fiction-memoir blend about a body in love and in pain, and a character convinced they're being hunted by snipers. Two are the work of Nobel Prize winners while others are penned by debut authors. Get the news that matters to you straight from the source.
