BiomeBank made waves two years ago when it secured world-first regulatory approval for its faecal transplant gut treatment. The Adelaide-based startup develops technologies to tackle declining gut health by restoring microbial ecology. Now, it’s in the final stages of a $4 million funding round to expand in the US market, and preparing to work with the country. Meanwhile, there is growing uncertainty on how the FDA will operate as Elon Musk’s DOGE prepares to overhaul the regulatory landscape. Equally unclear is what this regulatory overhaul could mean for companies innovating in healthcare. All-Female Founded Startups received 1% of total US VC funding in 2024: Overall, all-male and all-female founded companies saw a similar trajectory in terms of cumulative deal value and deal count, but female-founded companies received far less of the VC pie - at just 20% of the funding and 25% of total VC deals. When you run the numbers for female-founded companies without male co-founders, they drop to 1% of VC funding in 2024 and 6 percent of all deals. One way to get more women VC funding is for more women to hold decision-making roles at VC firms. At firms with more than $50M in assets under management, only 17.3% of the people making decisions about which checks to write are women, according to the PitchBook report. https://lnkd.in/gFPvZnNT
