The launch of the Australian Banking Association (ABA)’s new Banking Code of Practice marks a major step forward in safeguarding our customers, protecting small businesses and guarantors, and ensuring higher service standards and clearer support for those facing financial difficulties.

Continuing to drive better outcomes for customers is the key focus of the ABA’s new Banking Code of Practice, being launched today. This new rule book for banks provides customers with safeguards that are not set out in law, including greater protections for those who are vulnerable including facing financial difficulty, small businesses and guarantors. Did you know ANZ has been in China for nearly 40 years? It’s also the only Australian bank in China with both local and foreign currency capabilities in Corporate Banking and is one of Australia’s largest investors in China.    After 16 years at ANZ China, Stephanie Zhuang, one of our Directors in Institutional, embarked on a six-week secondment to our home markets—Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland—with one goal: to build stronger connections between Greater China and our home markets.    “In my meeting with clients, I shared insights on business and market trends in China, including my experience in helping multinational clients establish their Asia-Pacific Regional Treasury Centres in Shanghai – a trend that is gaining traction outside of other financial hubs like Hong Kong and Singapore.”   Stephanie’s secondment is just one example of how we continue to strengthen our connections with our global markets.

"In March 2024, my husband was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, with a prognosis that wasn't good.      "I was stubborn and thought I could manage everything: taking our three kids to school and activities, managing my husband's appointments, looking after him, running the household, eating well, exercising, keeping friends and family informed, and still working full-time in a high-pressure job. I thought I could do it all, but I was wrong."      Adele Fiene, NSW State General Manager Small to Medium Enterprise NSW/ACT, recently shared her personal journey on the importance of prioritising care during a time of crisis. At ANZ, we know being flexible is super important for keeping our people, attracting great talent and staying quick on our feet as things change for our customers. Besides our leave options, we also have flexible working hours and locations, part-time setups, and breaks for life and career.     “The way my team and manager approached carers leave was integral to my mental health and the performance of the business. My leader checked in on my well-being during my leave, offering flexible options for returning to work, such as part-time, project-based roles, further leave, limited travel, or a compressed week.       “If you are anything like me, please listen to your own advice and prioritise what is important—your family and your health."      For the full story, check the comments for the link to Adele's journey.

The lessons learned from Victoria's ground breaking road safety reforms can be applied to fight the modern scourge of scams, according to Shaq Johnson Head of Customer Protection, ANZ.   With Australian online scam victims losing around $2.7 billion in 2023 alone, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Johnson argues a comprehensive and whole of community strategy is needed, including legislative measures, technological advancements, and widespread public education. https://lnkd.in/gq9ZAVV2

"As a lender, I help customers navigate financing options to achieve their goals, whether it’s buying a home or investing."    "It’s not always easy, but if you're passionate about helping others and enjoy problem-solving, it’s a career worth pursuing." Meet Yuanxu (May) MEN – one of our #LegendaryLenders, a program that celebrates those who not only embody our values but make a real impact in our customers' lives.     Most recently, May had a memorable experience helping a first-time homebuyer fulfil her dreams. "Although her borrowing power was strong, she was understandably anxious, which is common for first-time buyers. After working closely together, we found a solution that fit both her budget and her needs. She was thrilled when her loan was successfully settled."    Ready to be a part of something legendary? See ANZ’s job adverts and apply via the ANZ careers portal: https://lnkd.in/gb8QwBPh
