#Innovation must become a core aspect of #democratic #existence, rather than being confined to a single ministry. This is my oped to argue why idea for a - Ministry of Innovation - misses much of the core point. Entities with strong techno-commercial skills like ISRO and NPCI have made notable impacts. Innovation thrives on technical expertise and commercial acumen, which cannot be effectively cultivated through a purely bureaucratic approach. To foster true #innovation, #India must cultivate an innovative mindset across all governmental levels, involving comprehensive #administrativereforms to make the bureaucracy more agile, accountable, and attuned to contemporary needs. Organizations like SPARKS of the SIX Swiss Exchange and the World Federation of Exchanges are the potential lifelines of SMEs to thrive and grow. SMEs need a unique environment to elevate its game. Here are the reasons why: ✅They are mostly innovators, solving community problems yet capitalization is limited. ✅Investors interested in SMEs are either Family Offices, Successful Entrepreneurs, Private Investors, Governments that need to drive success of SMEs as they are sources of taxes … and they pay taxes ✅ While they don’t necessarily employ in huge numbers, they are the first to open doors to young talents for new knowledge they can bring and retired talents for their decades long expertise ✅they put their skin on the game, they take risks to realize long term goals which include both financial and impact returns ✅they don’t religiously measure ROIC(Return on Invested Capital), EBITDA, Impact Returns only because their limited time is spent on running the business ✅Cosistent enablement, data that can support and inform their performance and operational decisions are needed to reduce opacity in their business that label them as high risks to investors. It’s time to give SMEs a new ecosystem that is integrated, a more connected platform to make it more efficient for them to access capital, commercial partners and supply chain opportunities. An environment that will set standards based on efficient use of capital, impact to society, ability to turn cash into innovative and scalable solutions that will reach not only their local communities but beyond, ecosystems that they build along the way. AI and Digital enablement tools that can observe and collect performance data is the new way to elevate the game that SMEs play.

It was a real pleasure being interviewed for this piece in SwissCognitive | AI Ventures, Advisory & Research, "The more robots act like us, the less they feel like tools. So how should we treat them? And what does that say about us?" Are #machines ruling the world? Artificial Intelligence and the #Future of #Humanity. "The development of full #artificialintelligence could spell the end of the human race. Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it will take off on its own and redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete and would be superseded”. (Stephen Hawking) There are many who assume that, as #AI systems become ever more powerful, machines are predestined to exceed the intelligence of human beings and thereby reach a point where they will one day rule the world. Nick Bostrum, one of the leading advocates of ideas along these lines, distinguishes a number of different scenarios for the future of humanity under these conditions, ranging from total extinction to what he calls 'posthumanity', when humans as we know them now will have evolved into entities of a new species. Positively, this has huge application in a variety of fields: ➡ #Speech recognition – the ability to translate voice-to-text or vice-versa, using Natural Language Processing. Many devices are now using this feature (e.g. Siri, Cortana, amongst others). ➡ Digital vision – the ability to derive meaningful information from digital images, videos and other visual inputs and, based on those inputs, take action. ➡ #Customer service – online chatbots answer frequently asked questions, provide personalised service, suggest cross-selling options and even sizes of garments, etc. ➡ #Marketing – based on the above “customer service” category, fashion trends and a variety of other inputs and data sets, business is able to predict what consumers are going to buy in the future and market accordingly. ➡ #Healthcare – a vast variety of applications in all aspects, from diagnosing, prescribing, monitoring, and predicting (the latter been used extensively during the current coronavirus pandemic). ➡ Avionics, weather, climate, stock exchange, gaming, politics, The list is endless. Are machines ruling the world – not yet perhaps, but #AI, on account of those who write the algorithmic code, seems to be moving in that direction. An artificial intelligence that keeps on redesigning itself to take more control would be difficult to stop and could end civilisation as we know it. But we should use all that positive impact of this #technology to move forward into the future. Does venture capital in Germany truly drive innovation, or is it just the narrative we want to believe? There’s a compelling case for both viewpoints. As highlighted in a recent analysis, Germany's ecosystem is among the largest in Europe, heavily leaning on VC for scaling startups and advancing technologies like AI and deep tech. The environment has matured, with state funding and angel investors stepping up. But let's not kid ourselves; the need for larger investment rounds is rising, reflecting a serious gap between early-stage innovation and the late-stage funding necessary for real growth. Moreover, many startups now view venture debt as an appealing alternative—keeping equity while still accessing the capital needed to expand. Yet, with rising interest rates and increasing investor caution due to economic conditions, securing the necessary funding is becoming a daunting challenge. Despite these hurdles, there is still a wave of opportunity, especially for startups diving into sustainability and global expansion. With impactful investments becoming the focus, Germany’s startup landscape remains vibrant, and the potential for growth is enormous. What do you think?
