Do you feel awkward at networking events? Do you wonder what your date really thinks of you? Do you wish you could decode people? You need to learn the science of people.

As a human behavior hacker, Vanessa Van Edwards created a research lab to study the hidden forces that drive us. And she’s cracked the code. In
Captivate, she shares shortcuts, systems, and secrets for taking charge of your interactions at work, at home, and in any social situation. These aren’t the people skills you learned in school. This is the first comprehensive, science backed, real life manual on how to captivate anyone—and a completely new approach to building connections.

Just like knowing the formulas to use in a chemistry lab, or the right programming language to build an app,
Captivate provides simple ways to solve people problems. You’ll learn, for example…

·
How to work a room: Every party, networking event, and social situation has a predictable map. Discover the sweet spot for making the most connections.
·
How to read faces: It’s easier than you think to speed-read facial expressions and use them to predict people’s emotions.
·
How to talk to anyone: Every conversation can be memorable—once you learn how certain words generate the pleasure hormone dopamine in listeners.

When you understand the laws of human behavior, your influence, impact, and income will increase significantly. What’s more, you will improve your interpersonal intelligence, make a killer first impression, and build rapport quickly and authentically in any situation—negotiations, interviews, parties, and pitches. You’ll never interact the same way again.

I wish I could give this book 6 stars!!!!!
I loved every second of this book. Vanessa herself is brave, real, and relatable. Her book is insightful, fun, and FULL of so much useful information. Her "conversation sparkers" were my absolute favorite and something I ended up sharing in my book as well (with full credit and permission of course) because I loved them so much. Vanessa is so smart and is always brining fresh ideas to the table. I especially love how brave she is by tackling subjects that most of us fear (networking events, presentations, small talk) then giving us smart ways to work through them. A must read!

This is a letter I wrote to Ms. Edwards and I think it sums up about how I feel about this book. Many of us are compassionate about the people God brings into our lives, but we... As in in me... Go about it the wrong way in showing our Tru feelings. This book... In the little I have read... Has already helped me and I hope it helps you also. You are a beautiful person. To let this he seen we have to shine the light on others and in the process we see the greatness in ourselves through the reflect.

    Letter:

hope this e-mail finds you well. I am really enjoying the book... Slow reader so just up to the decoding now. The book has really helped me out. I am fairly intellectual so I would always try to showcase myself. I thought I could make friend by showing my value. How wrong was l. I need to show them thier value. I love people, but I would come off arrogant. This eventually lead to me having no friends and a divorce after 20 years (sadly I didn't even see it coming).
However, now am an Uber driver and I can try out your techniques with my snack size friends (I love Fight Club) and it is amazing. I love hearing about peoples lives and we share a bond in the short time together.
I work hard at finding threads and asking why (I have not made it to 5 yet...sorry). It makes for an enjoyable ride for all and I have been asked to hang out afterwards and my tips have increased. But beyond that it has helped make ligit connections, something I always desired, but have done incorrectly (or I found a technique I could eliminate).
I look forward to many friends and a loving family.

    Sincerely,
    Matthew

PS- Thank you it was amazing. The more fucus I put on others the more they said I was wondering. I was gushing not knowing what to do. I had that time of attention in 15 years. And from people I just met. They said I just moved to the rank of number one Uber drive! (Which was odd because one of the friends was an Uber driver but I didn't want to split hairs).
PPS- Sadly, I didn't know how to take a compliment. All I could think to say was..."Aww... You would do the same to me."

Whether you are awkward or suave, male or female, introvert or extrovert, you need to read this book. And re-read it and do the exercises and hack human behavior for real, possibly for the first time in your life.

You will learn what makes people tick.

Vanessa seeks out the latest published results in the science of human behavior and then takes that fascinating material and turns it into experiments which she and her team use to show us how people work. Then they test the results and reset if necessary.

This book will help you fine tune your BS meter scientifically, show you why some people are successful on shark tank and how you can "add sparks to your conversation" to become unforgettable.

You will learn people skills that will change your life.

I have been studying this kind of information, back-checking from popular press articles to the scientific papers, since before I started speaking professionally in 1990 about networking, marketing and personal as well as product brand.
What is new here is the cogent development of a systematic way to gather information and use it to build a better you.

This is a systematic scientific approach researched in the real world. It works.

You've heard of IQ and EQ. This is about PQ.

PQ is a way of measuring your interpersonal intelligence. The stronger your PQ, the higher your probability of making more money, being a top performer, being happier and more fulfilled. Those outcomes are for real. They are based on the research.

A simple test shows you where you need work.

Yes, I'm studying you and perhaps listening a little more. It's because I took the PQ test and used the results to tell me where to really buckle down and study the simple but elegant ways to become more proficient. The microexpression flash cards really proved helpful to me. I could go on but you need to stop wasting your time on reviews.

Stop reading about the book and buy it now.

    You won't regret it.

This book was highly recommended by a work friend. I searched the author on YouTube and found hundreds of great videos that led me to pull the trigger on buying myself a copy. I expected to cheat the “small talk” system in anticipation of a work trip, because I absolutely dreaded meaningless “how are you?” “Fine, how are you?” Conversations. After reading this book (in 3 days because it is an easy and entertaining read) I embarked on my business trip with confidence and charisma. I didn’t have to cheat the system, I simply had to understand it! Vanessa has a way of speaking light into your spirit that encourages you to hone in on your natural strengths and get real about what you want to share—and hear—in conversations of every kind. She cracked the code and helps people master the system. I am very thankful for this collection of stories and statistics, along with Vanessa’s clever writing style. I’ll be recommending this book to everyone! 10/10
