In a surprising development, Sarwa Digital Wealth (Sarwa ثروة), a leading UAE-based robo-advisory startup, has been fined a total of $390,000 (1.43 million AED) by the DFSA and Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). The fines were imposed for offering securities to the public without an approved prospectus, a violation of the Markets Law. The DFSA imposed a fine of Dh701,815 ($191,100) on Sarwa Digital Wealth Ltd (Sarwa ثروة). in DIFC, and the FSRA imposed a penalty of Dh449,881 ($122,500) on Sarwa Digital Wealth (Capital) Ltd. in Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). This coordinated action highlights the importance of regulatory compliance for fintech startups in the UAE. Oraseya Capital Invests in Seven Technology Startups through SANDBOX SANDBOX, the Accelerator programme dedicated to the growth of tech startups, and part of Oraseya Capital, the venture capital investment arm of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), today announced the conclusion of its fourth cohort. Seven technology startups received investment from Oraseya Capital, with each startup receiving AED 570,000 (USD 150,000) following their success in the programme, which attracted over 1,500 applications. Abu Dhabi technology investment firm MGX is reportedly in talks with OpenAI as part of a multibillion-dollar fundraising round for the startup behind ChatGPT. Sources familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that MGX, which the UAE created earlier this year to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) projects, hasn’t determined the size of a potential investment in OpenAI. OpenAI is in talks to raise $6.5bn from investors at a valuation of $150bn, and the new valuation will cement the ChatGPT creator’s position as one of the most valuable startups in the world. Venture-capital firm Thrive Capital has committed $1bn and will lead the round, while Microsoft, Apple and Nvidia are in talks to also invest, according to a Bloomberg report. The potential investment would bring the Gulf state closer to one of the world’s leading AI companies and one of the most valuable private startups in the US.
