Gulf Countries Invest in the Future of Gaming The Beam Foundation has announced the launch of Beam Ventures, a $150 million fund dedicated to investing in advanced technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality, with a particular focus on the gaming industry. This initiative highlights the region's growing commitment to becoming a leader in the gaming sector. Saudi Arabia, at the forefront of this movement, has taken significant steps to dominate the global gaming landscape. In 2022, the kingdom introduced its national strategy for gaming and esports through Savvy Games Group, allocating $38 billion to develop the industry. This includes plans to establish 250 gaming companies, acquire major global studios like Scopely and ESL, and build a state-of-the-art esports city in Qiddiya worth $500 million. In addition to infrastructure, Saudi Arabia has also secured stakes in leading gaming companies such as Nintendo, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard. These investments are part of the kingdom's ambitious Vision 2030, aiming to contribute 10 billion SAR to GDP by 2026 and 50 billion SAR by 2030, solidifying its position as a gaming powerhouse. Globally, the gaming market is currently valued at $282 billion and is expected to grow to $363 billion by 2027, with annual growth rates of 20-30%. While Saudi Arabia leads the Middle East's gaming efforts, the region faces challenges, such as the limited number of Gulf-based gaming companies. If you have been to Dubai, you cannot miss the impressive and very beautiful building that houses The Museum of the Future. In May this year, it will host a truly innovative event -The Global Prompt Engineering Championship! Held in the Generative AI categories of Art, Music, and Coding, this, to me, perfectly symbolizes the innovation and serious intent UAE is bringing to the AI game. The UAE has an impressive 2031 Vision Document, world-class open source LLMs like Falcon and Jais, the MBZUAI (Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence), and now this! I exepct the UAE to be one of the Top 5 countries in AI, driven by such initiatives. Earlier this week, I spoke with TALK100.3 on this Championship and all the other strides that the UAE is taking in AI. Give it a listen.
