𝗕𝗟𝗢𝗚 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 & 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 The 2020’s decade began with one of the worst global cataclysms in recent history. The 2020 pandemic is estimated to have cost more in a single year than the combined natural disasters in last 20 years. The sheer scale of disruption has had a pervasive impact on businesses, especially those with complex supply chain operations—manufacturing, retail, distribution, etc. Enterprises, big and small, were all affected by the disruption in the supply chain. While large enterprises could mitigate some of these challenges with their established contingency plans, ample reserves and mature technology systems, the small and medium organizations bore the brunt. SMEs must always operate on their heels and cannot afford to carry excessive reserves. Moreover, in the event of disruption, SMEs lack the ability to react swiftly to build mitigation plans or explore alternatives. There can never be a one strategy or plan for an organization that may last forever. Organizations need to be agile and adapt to the changing market conditions. With technology, the right one, can help build the agility and adaptability needed by organizations today. Read the blog the understand the challenges faced by SMEs today and how leveraging solutions like Microsoft Dynamics 365 can help you navigate these and prepare to mitigate future disruptions. The Enigma of ROI of an ERP Implementation Majority of ERP implementations fail. As per Analyst firm Gartner, an estimated 𝟱𝟱-𝟳𝟱% of all ERP projects fail to meet their objectives. In fact, Gartner estimates that by 2027, more than 𝟳𝟬% of recently implemented ERP initiatives will fail to fully meet their original business case goals. This is staggering and, in many ways, avoidable given there are 25-45% projects that are successful. Organizations can learn from these successful projects. A key pre-work to an ERP project is building a business case that includes a high-level ROI assessment. While organizations build this initial ROI assessment, they fail to detail it out as the implementation progresses and the transition phase begins (typically lasting 2-3 years for SMEs). This initial ROI should guide the decision-making process of selecting the right solution and partner. The detailed ROI should guide the management on the progress on targeted improvements and achieving the business objectives. Here’s how you build the high-level and detailed ROI assessments: 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥: 𝟭. List down the functions that are impacted by the ERP (e.g. Finance, Procurement) 𝟮. List down the high-level improvements (e.g. resource allocation, faster processing) 𝟯. Identify the highest level KPIs for these improvements (e.g. finance cost as % of revenue, customer order cycle time) 𝟰. Estimate potential benefits or targets for improvements (e.g. reduce finance cost as % of revenue from 1.9% to 1.7%) 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱: As the implementation progresses and after the go-live, the respective teams would have a better understanding of the capabilities of the new system. 𝟭. Identify detailed level KPIs for targeted improvements (e.g. PO Processing Time, Accounts Payable Cost per Invoice) 𝟮. Estimate potential benefits or targets for improvements (e.g. reducing PO processing time by 1 hour) 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵𝘴, 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴. What IT Leaders Must Do to Avoid Disappointing ERP Initiatives? The history of ERP implementations is marred with failures despite massive investments and excessive hype. Despite the failures, organizations continue to adopt ERP systems, albeit with a more meticulous approach – learning from failures and embracing best practices. An interesting read from Gartner on the best practices that could help deliver a successful project: ✅ Involve a diverse set of stakeholders—leadership, management, staff—bringing breadth in terms of skills, views, and experiences. ✅A compelling case for the change that is inspiring and clearly communicated. Ensure all involved and impacted have the context and are on the same page with respect to the goals, contributions and expectations. ✅Leadership commitment in driving the goals and objectives. Leading from the front to ensure an effective two-way communication between all leadership and employees. “A strong alignment between ERP initiatives and corporate strategic goals is one of the top predictors of successful ERP initiatives, and this alignment is achievable when ERP leaders proactively develop an ERP strategy to support the execution” Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/d5H_hxJa Learn how Alfazance has been supporting a leading Facilities Management company for over 10 years, upgrading their ERP from Navision to AX to D365. Why is Strategy so important in an ERP project? As an organization looking for an ERP-led digital transformation, you have: 1. Challenges in your operations in some or several functions, 2. Plethora of technology solutions to choose from, 3. Large pool of implementation partners, and 4. Multiple methodologies to deliver the project These factors often become onerous, leading organization to make hasty decisions and end by with a poor experience and more often than no failed implementations. Recent Gartner research predicts widespread failure among ERP initiatives: · By 2027, more than 70% of recently implemented ERP initiatives will fail to fully meet their original business case goals. · As many as 25% of these will fail catastrophically. · And according to a recent Gartner survey, 75% of ERP strategies are not strongly aligned with overall business strategy, leading to confusion and lacklustre results. Before jumping on to a Digital Transformation engagement, take a step back to ask: 1. What are the possibilities for business transformation 2. What business objectives are being targeted 3. The role each function and key business partner (e.g., Finance, IT, and HR) will need to play An interesting perspective from Deloitte on the importance of Strategy in an ERP implementation: “Many organizations assume that technology will solve all problems. In some cases, vendors will convince them that technology is a panacea. But if the fundamentals aren’t in place, a well-intentioned ERP implementation initiative can fall far short of expectations. This can lead to a significantly lower return on investment, increase business user frustration, and cause users to be sceptical of future projects.” ERP strategy fundamentals include: 🔹 A defined vision and clear understanding of business needs 🔹 A right mix of business partners at the table 🔹 A clear road map for enabling desired capabilities 🔹 An understanding of functional and process integration points 🔹 A meaningful data strategy 🔹 A sound understanding of the reporting strategy with an enabling chart of accounts (CoA) 🔹 A clear plan to identify and develop strong talent Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/daNyDAp Qasid Parkar, Santosh Singh, A.S.
