Twin Peaks Revival Where Are They Now

Twin Peaks is coming back. Those are five words David Lynch fans having been waiting to hear for a long time.

On Monday, Showtime announced it is reviving the ABC cult classic for a nine-episode run in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Both of the show’s original writers, Lynch and Mark Frost, are back to pen the new season, with Lynch also signed on to direct the reboot.

Now that the news is officially out, Twin Peaks devotees are wondering where the revival will pick up. Those involved in the project are staying tight-lipped about details, including whether the original cast will return, only offering that this new dose of Lynchian drama won’t be a remake of the show.

It’s been nearly 25 years since TV last checked up on Special Agent Cooper and the oddball crew that fills the fictional northwestern town, leaving plenty of time for BOB to wreak havoc. For now, fans will have to wait to find out what happened to their favorite characters, but not to the actors that portrayed them.

In celebration of Twin Peaks‘s return to television we found what some of the show’s main players are up to today.

Kyle MacLachlan (Special Agent Dale Cooper)

“damn fine” coffee-loving lead actor has kept busy in TV land since Lynch’s show ended in 1991. Many may recognize his boy-next-door looks from Sex and the City, in which he played Charlotte’s first husband, Trey MacDougal. MacLachlan, 55, has also appeared in How I Met Your Mother, The Good Wife, Portlandia and Desperate Housewives.

Sheryl Lee (Maddy Ferguson and Laura Palmer)

Fans know who murdered Laura Palmer, but what has the actress who played her been up to since departing Twin Peaks? Lee has continued working in television, with recurring roles in Dirty, Sexy, Money and One Tree Hill. The 47-year-old actress also appeared in 2010’s Winter’s Bone with Jennifer Lawrence and is starring in the upcoming film The Makings of You.

Michael Ontkean (Sheriff Harry S. Truman)

Ontkean, 68, who played the small-town sheriff, has made sporadic TV movie appearances and had a role in the short-lived show North Shore. The most recent place Lynch aficionados can spot Ontkean on screen is in a bit role in 2011’s The Descendants starring George Clooney.

Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne)

One of Twin Peaks‘ sultriest residents, Fenn has continued working on the small screen. She regularly appeared in Gilmore Girls and Ray Donovan, and recently took on the role of Brittany Murphy’s mother in Lifetime’s TV movie The Brittany Murphy Story.

Ray Wise (Leland Palmer)

Wise went from being the leader of the Palmer household to playing one of the leaders of the free world. The 67-year-old portrayed Vice President Hal Gardner in 24, and had recurring roles in Mad Men and How I Met Your Mother. Wise currently has five projects in post-production, including Jurassic City – a movie about a pack of rampaging raptors. Oh my!

Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson)

After Amick left her poisonous Twin Peaks love triangle behind, she continued her relationship with television. If you don’t recognize Amick, 43, from Peaks, you may know her from her parts on ER, Gossip Girl, Californication and Damages. The actress recently appeared as Wendy Beauchamp in the Lifetime show Witches of East End.

Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs)

Like many other former Twin Peaks residents, Ashbrook has stayed in TV. The actor formerly known as Bobby Briggs can be spotted in Dawson’s Creek, Psych and Crash. Ashbrook, 47, also appeared in the 2012 film The Aggression Scale with Peaks costar Ray Wise.

Lara Flynn Boyle (Donna Hayward)

Boyle may have one of the best-known post- Peaks careers. Shortly after the show ended, she appeared in Wayne’s World and Where the Day Takes You. The 44-year-old also starred in Men in Black II and appeared in TV’s The Practice and Huff. Aside from her on-screen stardom, Boyle is also known for her off-screen romances, especially her highly publicized relationship with Jack Nicholson in 1999.

James Marshall (James Hurley)

Marshall appeared in A Few Good Men and 1992’s Gladiator (not the Russell Crowe movie) as well as a range of smaller TV and movie roles in the years the followed. The actor claims his later career was waylaid by a medical crisis. In 2012, Marshall, 47, sued pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-LaRoche, claiming their drug Accutane gave him such bad gastrointestinal distress that he was hospitalized for four months and had to have his colon removed.

Peggy Lipton (Norma Jennings)

Lipton was one of the few Peaks stars to have a big career before the show, starring in the The Mod Squad in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Lipton has made several big-and small-screen appearances since leaving the Double R Diner, including a role in Crash with Peaks costar Ashbrook. In 2004, Lipton, 68, was diagnosed with colon cancer, and is now in remission.

Joan Chen (Jocelyn Packard)

Chen is a true globetrotter, starting her career in her native China and winning acclaim for her roles as a young actress. After Peaks she stayed in the U.S. and appeared in several action films, including On Deadly Ground. Chen, 53, eventually moved into directing, making 2000’s Autumn in New York. Currently, the actress splits her time between acting roles in Asia and America.
