Writer and artist members may be eligible for the Annual Writers Distribution or the Annual Artists Distribution, to be paid in June. If you have not previously received a payment from one of these distributions, you may become eligible by registering one or more verifiable publications containing your works by 31 March. Writing WA is beyond thrilled to announce that in 2025, based on popular demand and thanks to generous ongoing support from Raine Square, Love to Read Local Week is expanding into Love to Read Local Month: a whole month-long celebration of Western Australian stories, authors, and readers! Throughout August 2025, we’re bringing you an epic line-up of literary events, competitions, and opportunities, including: - The return of the Author Fees Fund, giving WA organisations the opportunity to host author events throughout Love to Read Local Month. - The return of our beloved Flash Competition, with an exciting $1,100 prize pool. - Exclusive publishing opportunities in the Raine Square Short Story Dispenser & Writing WA’s Short Story Showcase. - A brand-new Children’s Writer-in-Residence placement at KSP Writers’ Centre. - A mystery new competition for readers (stay tuned!) with a $1,100 prize pool. - The third edition of the little journal featuring 30 talented WA authors. As part of Love to Read Local Month 2025, we’re thrilled to introduce a brand-new Children’s Writer-in-Residence placement in partnership with the KSP Writers' Centre! This opportunity is open to published WA-based children’s authors—emerging or established—who is a current financial Writing WA member, offering a dedicated one-week residency (14-20 July 2025) during the school holidays. The selected writer will receive: 📖 $3,000 stipend 🏡 One-week stay at KSP Writers’ Centre in the beautiful Perth hills 👩🏫 Opportunity to deliver a workshop for junior readers 📝 Publication of an essay in the little journal issue #3, 2025 📸 Participation in Love to Read Local Month promotions This is a fantastic chance to focus on your craft, engage with young readers, and celebrate WA stories.
