The upcoming 90th Academy Awards will mark the 25th consecutive year that the Oscars will feature an "In Memoriam" segment. While it had been done on occasion before, the annual tribute to Academy members and other film legends started a regular tradition at the 1994 ceremony hosted by Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg.
We've assembled a list below of people who have died in the past 12 months who might be featured during the "In Memoriam" for the ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on March 4. Producers have not yet revealed who might be performing during the tribute.
Sure to have prominent placements are previous Oscar champ Martin Landau ("Ed Wood," 1994), honorary Oscar recipient Jerry Lewis and respected actor Bill Paxton ("Titanic," "Apollo 13"). Paxton actually died on the weekend of last year's ceremony and was mentioned on the broadcast, but it was too late to include him in the edited segment already prepared.

Gosh, deciding In Memoriam is going to be by far the hardest. Does anyone think we could get more than 100 people in the In Memoriam segment, even if it’s at the expense of the more traditional entertainment segments and even some commercials?
I couldn’t help but notice that Tom Petty, the subject of Peter Bogdanovich’s documentary film Running Down A Dream, the composer for She’s The One and a supporting actor in The Postman. Petty and his band The Heartbreakers were also the subjects of a 1993 documentary film called Going Home
and several other documentary and in concert films. His songs were also featured on the soundtracks of numerous films.

They generally cap the number around 35-40 people.
Last year it was 45. Why such a relatively small number (considering how many people there are worth honoring)?

I did not know that two on the list had passed on!
Jerry Lewis is the best . He is well missed. I love all his old movies. I wish they would put some on.

What about Peter Sallis? He was in the Wallace and Gromit franchise that won a few Oscars!
