She contended for Best Comedy Actress last year for this series, which she also co-created, writes, directs and produces. She previously won an Emmy for “King of the Hill” (Best Voice-Over Performance in 2002) and was nominated four more times for “Louie” (Best Comedy Writing in 2013, Best Comedy Series in 2014 and 2015, and Best Comedy Guest Actress in 2015). Alison Brie (“GLOW”): Brie plays Ruth Wilder, a struggling actress-turned-professional wrestler who learns to embrace villainy in the ring when she creates an evil Soviet alter ego, Zoya the Destroyer. She has already received Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics Choice nominations for Best Comedy Actress for the show, as well as an additional SAG bid as a member of the ensemble cast. Minnie Driver (“Speechless”): Driver plays Maya DiMeo, the headstrong mother of a special needs child (Micah Fowler). She earned an Oscar nomination for “Good Will Hunting” (Best Supporting Actress in 1997) and previously competed at the Emmys for “The Riches” (Best Drama Actress in 2007) and “Return to Zero” (Best Movie/Mini Actress in 2014). Justina Machado (“One Day at a Time”): Machado plays Penelope Alvarez, a divorced military vet living with her mother (Rita Moreno) and two children in Los Angeles. Debra Messing (“Will & Grace”): Messing plays Grace Adler , an interior designer living with her gay best friend, Will (Eric McCormack). During the show’s original run between 1998 and 2006 Messing won an Emmy for Best Comedy Actress in 2003, and she was nominated four other times (2000-2002, 2006).
