Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages. Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme. This month's theme is "Back to School" and was picked by Bo!
We are halfway through August right now and even though we have a lot of hot days ahead of us, summer vacation is over for most kids and a lot of adults with seasonal jobs will be returning to work. During this transitional time, I like to focus on transitioning my wardrobe from summer clothes to fall. Even though the weather is still warm, I like to look "fall" by wearing fall colors.
This classic burgundy shift dress is so old I can't believe it hasn't fallen apart by now. My daughter actually found it for me on a clearance rack at Charming Charlies...which has long since gone out of business but the dress lives on! I have shown it so many times before on this blog. Here are some of the many ways I've styled it that show how versatile this dress is!
With a Shacket and Tall Boots

With A Kimono

With a Cardigan and Scarf

With a Head Scarf and Lace Up Flats
With a Denim Vest and Lace Up Wedges

Is this dress versatile or what? Solid color basic pieces like this dress are the perfect starting point to creating unique outfits. The burgundy color, short sleeves, and short length of the dress make it a wonderful dress for fall because the color of the dress is a fall color, but the dress style is summer. I can add layers that can keep me warm on the cooler mornings/evenings, but can also be taken off in the heat of the day.
On the day that I wore this outfit, we were on a late summer trip to Springfield Illinois. It was a hot day, and we were doing a lot of sight seeing so I wanted to be comfortable, yet cute.
I wore a dark brown felt hat to protect myself from the sun, carried a saddle crossbody bag for security reasons and ease of carrying while sightseeing, and comfy loafer shoes.
So what about you? How are you getting ready to go back to school/work or transitioning your summer clothes for fall? I'd love to hear from you.
Now be sure to check out the other ladies "Back to School" outfits and be sure to link up with us as well.
Have A Great Day! Amy

Thanks Jill.
DeleteThat really is such a versatile dress. I love all the looks you've pulled together with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne.
DeleteI love this dress and the multiple ways it can be worn! It's perfect for fall! I am looking forward to transitioning my wardrobe. We are actually getting a little cooler (mid 80s instead of mid 90s) next week and looking forward to cooler mornings.

Thank you. Wow! Mid-80's would not be considered "a little cooler" here in Wisconsin. We're expecting a real "cool off" next week that has all us gardeners concerned. 60's during the day but 47 overnight. I hope my tomatoes do ok.
DeleteI loved Charming Charlies! You could find so many fun things there. It looks like you must have been at the big cemetery where Abraham Lincoln was buried in your current photo. That's a really neat cemetery.

I know. Me too. I went there all the time and always spent $ so I have no idea how they went out of business ha ha. Yes, it is the cemetery! Good eye!
DeleteWhat an amazing color and you show how many combinations there are. I have to admit that the head scarf is so eye catching. I hope you do that more!!

Thank you. I liked the head scarf but I got so many head-turns with that one I felt uncomfortable.
DeleteVery fashionable and versatile. I like the blue scarf with it very much.

ReplyDeleteThank you Laura!
DeleteThis is such a great classic piece and I am absolutely loving the color. You definitely styled it many great ways and I especially like it this fall with the felt hat which you look great in!

ReplyDeleteSooooo cute! You look darling in every single photo! You are right - that dress with it's rich color is so versatile!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Laura
DeleteYou look lovely in your burgundy dress. The head scarf looks especially pretty on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Based on the commands it sounds like I need to wear a head scarf more.
DeleteI love how you showed the versatility of that burgundy dress so many ways to layer it for the season! It’s a great reminder that a simple, classic piece can carry you from summer into fall with just a few smart additions.
ReplyDeleteThank you Melody.
DeleteYou’re wearing one of my favourite colours! Great ways to style this lovely shift dress. Winter is too long in Canada and I don’t think about fall until October. I’m enjoying sunshine and pleasant weather as long as it lasts. BTW Coincidentally, my next post is about various ways I have styled my thrifted striped shirt this month. 😊

Thank you. I also live in a cold climate and I agree that people tend to rush the fall season way too fast.
DeleteGreat outfits! Love those high boots and dresses. I'm not ready for fall yet!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm never ready for fall. It's always such a sad time of year for me.
DeleteThat is a lovely dress! The length suits Summer and the color suits Fall. I love how you've combined the two seasons in this dress.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
