Like so many before me, I’ve been drawn to the world of Deyrolle, a place that celebrates the strange, the beautiful, and the often-overlooked wonders of nature. It’s been an endless source of inspiration, and I’m deeply grateful for the chance to collaborate with them. It’s an honor, and a bit surreal, to now be part of their story, especially with a creature so close to my heart: the elephant.
Actor and musician Johnny made a surprise appearance at a tribute concert honoring punk legend Patti Smith at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall yesterday, March 26. The event, titled “People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith,” brought together an impressive array of artists to pay homage to Smith’s influential career.
Johnny took the stage to perform a rendition of Smith’s song “Dancing Barefoot,” joining forces with Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea. The performance was one of the highlights of the evening, showcasing Johnny’s musical talents alongside his acting prowess.
Later in the concert, Johnny joined Smith and a host of other performers, including Bruce Springsteen, Michael Stipe, and Karen O, for an all-star jam session of “People Have the Power.” The grand finale saw nearly every guest artist sharing the stage with Smith, creating a memorable moment for the audience.
Johnny and Smith have shared a close friendship for many years, making his participation in the tribute particularly meaningful. The concert was a benefit event, with all proceeds going towards music education for underserved youth.
The star-studded lineup also included performances from Matt Berninger, Kim Gordon, and Angel Olsen, among others, with actors Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn reading Smith’s poetry. The house band, led by Smith’s longtime collaborator Tony Shanahan, featured notable musicians such as Flea and Steve Jordan.
Johnny’s unannounced appearance added an extra layer of excitement to an already spectacular evening celebrating one of rock’s most iconic figures.
