KASUR: Tribute paid to Bulleh Shah

Published April 19, 2004

KASUR, April 18: Baba Bulleh Shah is a widely-acclaimed sufi poet for he has always projected truth in his verses. Foreign Minister Mian Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri said this while speaking at the ceremony held on the 'life and golden principles of Baba Bulleh Shah' at the District Hall here on Sunday.

The function was arranged in collaboration with the district government and Punjab Arts Council with District Nazim Rana Imtiaz Ahmad Khan in the chair. The foreign minister said the verses of Bulleh Shah taught us to promote harmony, brotherhood and peace in society, but some unscrupulous elements were bent upon to cultivate extremism.

The District Nazim said the poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah had not only strengthened the Muslim movements in the subcontinent but also helped eliminate social differences from society.

Later, a Mehfil-i-Sama was also held which was chaired by provincial Management and Professional Development Minister Sardar Hassan Akhtar Moakal. Known qawals, including Ameer Ali, Rizwan Ali and Moazam Ali, and artists presented the poetry and verses of the sufi poet.

Shields were also given away to members of the 'Bulleh Shah Night' committee by the minister, DCO Hashim Tareen and Tehsil Nazim Malik Rasheed after the function.
