bell and here to give the sad news that zulu passed away on September 20th. She was surrounded by family and love. To share her words:
Although dying at 43 may feel sad and unfair- nevertheless, I'm happy. I've lived a full life with people I love, and I've accomplished everything I dreamed of when I was young. As Bilbo once said: "I am immensely fond of you all, and eleventy-one years is too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits."

Aug. 19th, 2024 10:00 amThank you to everyone who replied to my last two posts - I really appreciate your well-wishes and also your practical advice about figuring out the fannish next-of-kin stuff! I am happy to report that I now have a fannish next-of-kin.
I've gotten out of the habit of long-form updatery, but I thought it would be nice to report a few things that have brought me joy lately.
- Child has enjoyed all his summer camps this year. Last week he went to bike camp and he's been showing off all his bruises ever since. He's very proud of himself and I'm proud of him!
- Yesterdaydaemonluna and troutkitty visited and we had a lovely tea and catchup. And I got so many presents! The most beautiful binds of some of my fanfics! They're so pretty! - The weather has been beautiful lately! Blue skies, not too hot, not too cold. I like sitting on the steps in our garden and picking ripe raspberries right off our bush. Nom nom nom.
- I have *very nearly* unburied myself from all the paperwork. I have one singular email left to reply to (a scary one that I have been leaving until last), but I think I can get even that one conquered today.
- I have a new bed! Bed goes up, bed goes down. It bends! It twists! It's amazingly comfortable to sleep in! It's a rental from the palliative care team so it's largely/entirely covered by AHS, except for the delivery fee, and let me tell you, it is amazing to have a wonderful palliative care team that can connect you with resources that you didn't even know were available.
- I am writing/plotting a new smau, and yesterday the characters took over my brain. I always love when that happens.
- Current med regimen is working well!
- Lots of reading and writing whenever I have brain.

I'm trying to set up a fannish next of kin on AO3. I've sent an email to Support with (as far as I know) all the required information. It's been nearly a month and I haven't heard back. For most people I'm sure this is a long-term proposition and a month's delay doesn't make much of a difference. But for me, I actually need and want to get this done sooner rather than too late! I've tried tweeting at AO3 but I know that's not the right venue. Apparently I can't follow up on *my* ticket, I'd need to create an entirely new ticket...which defeats the purpose if I then have to wait a month+ for that one to get answered.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Unfortunate news
Jul. 26th, 2024 10:26 amWell, hello dreamwidth, after...yikes, a year. I'm afraid we all know how it is - your fandom moves to tumblr, twitter, and discord, and so you move too for the fandom, and then you lose track of time, and here we are.
Unfortunately the reason I have returned is to share some sad news. You may have seenbell's post here with some of the details, but basically, ( cancer )
I wanted all of you to know, because we have had such good fannish lives together. Thank you for being a part of mine!

Jul. 21st, 2023 01:59 pmWell, I went swimming today, and it did what I was hoping/dreading for my shoulder--gave it a nice but not excessive workout, and left me feeling the right kind of stretchy-sore where I very carefully didn't overdo it. I did 5 laps in the slow lane, then a rest, then one more lap, then I was like "oh yeah shoulder says that's enough laps." Then I went in the hot tub and stuck my shoulder right on a jet. Which I'm sure looked weird because it involved nearly pressing my face into the wall, but whatevs, it was mostly just me.
This is the dreaded outcome because now I need to make Healthy Choices (TM) and start doing this more often...which means waking up early. Insert sadface here.

Random things

- I think I'm starting to get some sensation back in my feet? My nerves are damaged from the chemo drugs but my fingers/hands are back to 98-99 percent, I'd say. My feet are still quite numb most of the time but I'm starting to get some tingling/weird sensations. It's like the difference between not feeling anything, and knowing that I'm not feeling anything. Strange distinction but there it is.
- L and I had a lovely time at the local wave pool this afternoon. He's getting much more comfortable in the water but I really need to get him signed up for proper swim lessons. He was just getting started on swimming when covid hit and we haven't really gotten him back on track since. He loves swimming and I'd love to feel more comfortable letting him get farther away from me without worrying he'll drown.
- Relatedly, it looks like swimming is stupidly good for my injured shoulder. Yeah, I injured myself this past winter skiing--fell right forward onto it, more than once. Did the physio thing. It's definitely still...not great. But now apparently I know that I just need to start swimming regularly. It doesn't hurt, it just has that good achey stretchy pull that means it's doing good things in there. Dammit! This will mean waking up early.
- I am hungry? Maybe? But for what? Must determine this.

May. 12th, 2023 02:58 amI am very embarrassed to show my face! It has been far too long and for no very good reason.
I guess I went back to work and my brain gotten eaten by my shiny new fandom--which is entirely on twitter and tumblr. And I never thought I'd be the person who'd abandon dreamwidth for tumblr/twitter but now I am that person peeking back and being like...Hi. I'm the problem. It's me.
And I don't even like Taylor Swift.
So a brief overview:
1. CT scan is clear as of late April and I am currently uncancerous!
2. I have been writing like a madwoman and I'm 2/3 of the way through the longest thing I've ever written (fandom ate brain).
3. Family and cats are well. L is 8.5 which is frankly ridiculous.
