We have a hatchling! 🦅 We're excited to share an update from the Ouplaas quarry, where a pair of Black Eagles (Verreaux's Eagles) returned to nest on a protected rock ledge. After adapting activities around the nest to minimise disturbance, we're delighted to see that the breeding pair has successfully welcomed a chick. This special milestone reinforces the importance of responsible environmental management and our commitment to protecting biodiversity alongside our mining operations. At Idwala, we believe that responsible mining and nature can coexist—and this little arrival is a wonderful reminder of what can happen when we give wildlife the space and protection it needs to thrive.

This International Youth Day, we celebrated the passion, curiosity, and dedication of the next generation of industry professionals. We were proud to recognise our Chemical Engineering Learners—Asanda Mzimele, Seluleko Mthombeni, and Nomonde Gazu—who have been gaining valuable practical experience while developing the knowledge and skills that will help shape the future of our industry. At Idwala, we believe that investing in young talent is an investment in innovation, sustainability, and the long-term success of South Africa's mining and manufacturing sectors. Through opportunities for learning, mentorship, and hands-on experience, we continue to help develop confident professionals who are ready to make a meaningful impact. Thank you to our learners for their enthusiasm and commitment, and to our mentors for helping nurture the next generation of industry leaders. Together, we're building a stronger future.

This National Women's Day, we celebrate the women who continue to shape the future of mining and reaffirm our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered. We're proud that Idwala's campaign, "Creating a Safer and More Inclusive Workplace – Addressing Gender-Based Violence in the Workplace," was recognised as the winner of the 2025 ILA & Vision Zero Award in the Prevention Culture category by the International Lime Association. The campaign reflects our commitment to fostering a workplace free from violence, harassment, and discrimination. Through our dedicated Women in Mining (WIM) Committee, we continue to strengthen policies, raise awareness, enhance support structures, and promote meaningful improvements that help create a safer and more inclusive working environment. At Idwala, we believe that protecting and empowering women is not only the right thing to do—it is essential to building a stronger, safer, and more sustainable mining industry. Today, we celebrate the achievements of women across our business and the industry, while continuing to champion a culture of dignity, respect, equality, and inclusion for all. Happy National Women's Day.

This International Self-Care Day, we're shining a spotlight on the importance of health, wellbeing, and support in the workplace. At Idwala, our on-site clinic facilities provide employees with convenient access to healthcare services across our mining operations. Employees with diagnosed medical conditions are regularly monitored, while all employees can access primary healthcare support whenever they are feeling unwell. We also run ongoing health awareness campaigns focused on specific medical conditions and wellbeing topics. Our commitment to wellbeing extends beyond physical health. Through our Employee Assistance Programme, employees and their dependants have access to confidential counselling and support services covering a wide range of personal challenges, including trauma, family matters, alcohol-related concerns, legal advice, financial difficulties, and more. In addition, our HIV wellness programme provides ongoing monitoring, support, and access to medication for employees who have been diagnosed, helping them manage their health with confidence and dignity. These images showcase just some of the initiatives that support wellbeing across Idwala, including our Cancer Walk, Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign, Family Fun Day, and Game Conservancy Self-Drive, alongside members of our dedicated SHEQ Team, who work every day to promote a culture of health, safety, and wellbeing throughout our operations.

This Nelson Mandela Day, we celebrate the power of education to transform lives and create opportunities for future generations. These images capture special moments from our ongoing partnership with URGlobal, including the 2023 graduation event attended by Siyabulela Mandela Ph.D. grandson of Nelson Mandela, and Luleka Mkuzo PhD, founder of URGlobal. Together, they continue to inspire young learners through the message that education remains one of the most powerful tools for change. Now in its fifth year, this annual initiative is focused on creating awareness around technology, coding, and digital skills within rural communities. Through access to technology training and educational opportunities, the programme helps equip learners with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. At Idwala, we believe meaningful community investment is not a once-off event—it's a long-term commitment. By supporting education and technology development year after year, we are helping to empower future leaders and create lasting impact in the communities where we operate. As we honour Madiba's legacy, we remain committed to building brighter futures through education, opportunity, and community partnership.

Nature has made a remarkable return to the Ouplaas quarry. A pair of Black Eagles (Verreaux's Eagles) has returned to nest on a protected rock ledge within the quarry—a powerful reminder that responsible mining and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. Once the nest was discovered, mining and rehabilitation activities in the immediate area were adapted to minimise disturbance and help protect the breeding pair, allowing nature the opportunity to continue its cycle safely. For Idwala, this is more than a wildlife sighting. It reflects our ongoing commitment to balancing operational excellence with biodiversity conservation, demonstrating that with careful planning and responsible action, industry and nature can successfully coexist. The return of these magnificent birds is a proud environmental milestone—and a reminder that protecting our natural heritage is everyone's responsibility.
