About X:
X is Alphabet’s moonshot factory with a mission of inventing and launching “moonshot” technologies that could someday make the world a radically better place. We are a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs who build and launch technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Our goal: 10x impact on the world’s most intractable problems, not just 10% improvement. We approach projects that have the aspiration and riskiness of research with the speed and ambition of a startup. As an innovation engine, X focuses on repeatedly turning breakthrough-technology ideas into the foundations for large, sustainable businesses.
About the team:
Our team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and evolving core infrastructure used by all project teams at X. We're a team of software engineers that interface with teams from across the X project portfolio to solve their most critical software challenges. We also partner with Cybersecurity, Google Cloud, and other Google teams to bring software best practices to X.
About the role:
As a Software Engineer on our team, you will be a champion for developer productivity and satisfaction. You'll focus on building and improving the cloud infrastructure and tooling that empowers X's project teams to do their best work, with a strong emphasis on creating a seamless and enjoyable developer experience.
How you will make 10X impact:
- Developing and maintaining X's core cloud infrastructure (on GCP) using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform). This includes designing, implementing, and testing infrastructure as code solutions for a variety of needs, such as compute, storage, networking, and security.
- Ensuring X's development environment is best-in-class. This includes working on tools and services that improve developer productivity, such as CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and code deployment systems.
- Collaborating with X project teams to understand their needs and provide support. This includes troubleshooting issues, providing guidance on best practices, and helping teams adopt new technologies.
- Staying ahead of the curve on the latest cloud technologies and trends. This includes evaluating new tools and services, and recommending solutions that can improve X's infrastructure and developer experience.
- Responding to Alphabet requirements and ensuring compliance. This includes implementing security best practices, adhering to data privacy policies, and meeting internal audit requirements.
What you should have:
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in software engineering
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java)
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, with a preference for Terraform
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, with a preference for GCP
- Familiarity with data-intensive architectures (databases, pipelines, etc.)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- A passion for learning and problem-solving
It’d be great if you also had one or more of these:
- Experience with GCP services such as Cloud Spanner, Vertex AI, TensorFlow, Dataflow, and GKE
