Biography

I am studying history at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., as a PhD student. Before joining GU, I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Boğaziçi University (BA; MA) and the University of Manchester (ER+).

The history of travel and travel writing stands out as my favorite research topic. My MA thesis, Clerk of Kayseri: Nature, Society, and Empire in the Manuscripts of Yazıcı Murtaza, examines the life of a forgotten Ottoman Turkish peasant, poet, teacher, traveler, and scribe from the eighteenth century.

Since 2021, I have translated definitions and articles here without focusing on a specific period. Currently, my primary focus in these translations is Anatolian, American, and Mediterranean history. I am also interested in translating various episodes from the history of Istanbul and Turkey.

Translating these materials does not necessarily imply a personal endorsement of various opinions by different authors. As a translator, my goal has been to disseminate scholarly content in history to a broader audience.
