About us

Driven with a passion for pushing the boundaries of typography, Gradient Type is focused on delivering retail and custom typefaces that leave a lasting impression with their distinctiveness and originality. We’ve built this foundry for the designers who are tired of conventional standards and are looking for fonts with a soul, a personality, and maybe a little bit of a temper. If you’re after a more personalized, artistic touch that refuses to blend into the background, you’ve come to the right place. We don’t really do corporate beige.

Licensing

We offer Standard and Premium license types on our website. Each license type covers the use as following:

Standard License: Print, Logo, Website, Web apps, Social media (Up to 100,000 total impressions per month across all platforms).

Premium License: Print, Logo, Website, Web apps, Social media (No limit on social impressions), Mobile apps, Games, Video and broadcast, ePub and embedded formats.

Custom Fonts

We enjoy making custom fonts just as much as we like immersing ourselves in making the retail ones. Whether you need us to build a typeface entirely from scratch or just want to perform some elective surgery on one of our existing retail fonts to make it uniquely yours, we’re game. You name it, we frame it. If you have a custom inquiry that requires a specific set of skills (and a questionable amount of coffee), please get in touch.

Variable Fonts

For every one of our commercially available typefaces, we offer a Variable version, because sometimes “Regular” is too light and “Medium” is just a bit too much. These are available exclusively when you purchase a full font family. If you aren’t familiar with the sorcery of variable technology, we highly recommend getting to know the basics before you invite them onto your hard drive. They’re incredibly powerful, but like any high performance tool, they work best when you actually know which sliders to pull and which ones to leave for the professionals.

Refund and Return Policy

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds once the purchase is made. Think of a font like a haircut: once it’s on your head (or your hard drive), we can’t exactly put it back on the shelf. We highly recommend double checking your cart before you commit. However, if you run into an actual technical glitch, like a font that refuses to behave or a file that’s acting suspiciously, please get in touch. We’re much better at fixing bugs than we are at processing buyer’s remorse.

Collaboration

Font Commissions from Other Type Designers

Yes, we do accept font commissions from other type designers, but with a slight disclaimer: we aren’t a high-volume assembly line. We keep our library intentionally curated because hyper production makes us break out in hives. If you want to pitch us a typeface, it needs to play well with our aesthetic principles, share our specific brand of humor, and generally not be a bore. Once you submit, we’ll give it a proper look and provide a honest feedback.

Other Types of Collaboration

We have a soft spot for fresh ideas and emerging talent, regardless of what medium you’re currently obsessed with. Whether it’s 3D renders, video, print, experimental coding, or a type based performance art piece we haven’t even dreamed of yet. If it’s visual communication, we’re interested. If you’ve got a project that needs a boost of our specific expertise to reach its final form, give us a shout. We promise we don’t bite, unless you use small caps in your pitch deck.
