Our Sustainability Strategy

Mobility is a fundamental prerequisite for our economic and social development. It enables the exchange of ideas and goods, promotes innovation, and connects people across borders. For many, automotive mobility also represents a sense of freedom and is an indispensable part of daily life, both now and in the future.

The mobility sector is undergoing a period of profound transformation. A new mobility ecosystem is emerging, driven by climate change, geopolitical developments, the rise of electric mobility, and the rapid advancement of digital technologies. Increasing connectivity, intelligent vehicle systems, and the gradual transition toward autonomous driving are fundamentally changing how mobility is conceived, provided, and experienced.

Sustainability, particularly the decarbonization of mobility, is a core aspect of this transformation. The driving forces are the increasingly noticeable effects of climate change, heightened consumer awareness towards sustainable living, and not least, regulatory frameworks.

Our mission

Volkswagen Financial Services AG is Europe's largest automotive financial and mobility services provider. As a sales enabler within the Volkswagen Group, we play an important role in the sustainable transformation of mobility. Our sustainability strategy provides the binding framework for this and is aligned with the Group-wide sustainability agenda. It deliberately builds on the Volkswagen Group's "regenerate +" sustainability strategy, ensuring that our activities are consistent with the Group's overarching goals while reflecting the specific requirements of our own business model.

Our mission is to meet our customers' mobility needs with sustainable solutions throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.

Sustainability is thus an important element of our business activity. We are convinced that we can only successfully implement our business model in the future through responsible and forward-thinking actions.

Our sustainability strategy is structured into four dimensions: Nature, Employees, Society, and Business. This translates the classic ESG areas (Environmental, Social, and Governance) into concrete fields of action that reflect our corporate strategy.

What does sustainability mean for
Volkswagen Financial Services?

We understand sustainability as a holistic guiding principle, a comprehensive strategy that gives equal weight to environmental, social, and economic aspects. It is not an isolated goal, but an ongoing process that shapes how we act as a business and safeguards the long-term viability of our business model.

We do not regard sustainability as a static concept. Instead, we continuously and consistently adapt our approach. This is not done in isolation, but based on internal and external assessments and validations (for example, ESG rating – see below).

 

 

Within our core business...

 
...we take entrepreneurial responsibility for conducting our business sustainably. We aim to use natural resources sparingly and, wherever economically feasible, to give preference to environmentally compatible products and services. Our greatest influence on comprehensive CO2 emissions reduction lies in the transformation of our portfolio towards battery-electric mobility – our core business as the captive financial services provider of Volkswagen AG.

Outside our core business...

 
...we take on social responsibility and engage regionally and locally in our 17 markets – with social projects, sports sponsorships in the region, and the promotion of cultural life. For our employees, we are a top employer because we respect their interests and offer attractive and diverse work tasks. We actively contribute to sustainable development at our locations.
