The Adani Group, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in India was founded by Gautam Adani in 1988. His rise to the top echelons of the world’s wealthiest people has been surreal. The Adani Group started as a commodity trading business mainly dealing in agricultural products and textiles. In the late 1990s, the company expanded into exports and imports of raw materials and finished goods. Currently, its diversified portfolio engages in businesses related to coal trading, mining, oil and gas exploration, ports, logistics, power, and agro commodities among others. During the last few years, the share prices of the Adani Group skyrocketed, catapulting him to the position of the world’s third richest and Asia’s richest person in 2022.
