EVM324 Battery Equalizer &
Charge-Discharge Device
Product Introduction
I. Product Introduction
The EVM324, is a new energy maintenance device that combines battery module balancing, charging and discharging.
This device is suitable for testing and maintaining various types of battery packs, including power and energy storage
batteries. The device supports independent balancing control for each connected cell, enabling precise adjustment of
each cell to a uniform voltage level based on the user's specified voltage target. Additionally, it offers the capability for
rapid high-current charging and discharging at the terminal, efficiently adjusting the overall voltage of the battery pack to
the desired state. EVM324 should be used with an optional diagnostic device. With the accompanying app on this
diagnostic device, users can remotely monitor, check battery status, and export diagnostic reports, effectively enhancing
II. Application Scenarios - Balancing
Why Does the Battery Pack Need to Be Balanced? - The "Barrel Principle" of Power Battery Charging and Discharging
As the service life of new energy vehicles increases, the differences between battery cells will gradually expand. Industrial
manufacturing cannot ensure that every battery is 100% identical, just as no two leaves on the same tree are exactly the same. Even if
we assume that the voltages of two battery cells are completely identical, their positions within the battery module may lead to
differences in environmental temperature (e.g., cell 1 has a significantly higher temperature than cell 2). After multiple charging and
discharging cycles, the voltages of the cells will diverge, and this discrepancy will grow with prolonged use.
After a period of use, the SOC (State of Charge) of battery cells in a power battery is shown as follows: MAX_SOC = 90%, MIN_SOC =
40%. The SOC value of the entire battery pack is determined by the cell with the lowest SOC, so the battery pack's SOC is 40%.
When the SOC of a low-SOC cell reaches its lower limit, the power battery can no longer discharge. Continuing to discharge will
damage the cell with the minimum SOC. In this case, the battery pack still has a significant amount of remaining charge. This is what we
refer to as the "barrel principle" (the capacity of a barrel is limited by its shortest plank). The same logic applies to charging: When a high-
SOC cell is fully charged while low-SOC cells are not, the battery pack can no longer accept charging. Recharging the fully charged cells
poses a high risk of damage (commonly known as overcharging, which carries risks of explosion and fire).
Therefore, when the battery pack module is undervolted or has excessive voltage differences, leading to vehicle inoperability or
reduced range, balancing is essential.
II. Application Scenarios - Charging and Discharging
Which Scenarios Require Charging and Discharging Operations for Battery Packs?
Scenario 1:
Used for module balancing. When a detection device
identifies issues with the cells inside a battery pack,
maintenance technicians typically replace the entire module
under normal circumstances (as repairing individual cells is
highly difficult and time-consuming). After module
replacement, the charge-discharge device can be used for
balancing to ensure uniform voltage across the module before
reinstallation.
Scenario 2:
When balancing module cells with a battery equalizer, the
entire balancing process may take a long time. In this case,
the charge-discharge device can first charge the module to a
roughly uniform voltage level, after which the equalizer is
used for final balancing to achieve consistent cell voltages.
The combined use of the equalizer and charge-discharge
device helps improve the maintenance efficiency.
Scenario 3:
When a battery pack is disassembled from a vehicle, its
charge must be discharged to a reasonable SOC level
according to different transportation methods (land, sea, or
III. Functional Features
1. Collaborative interconnection with diagnostic devices
The lightweight main unit can be paired with diagnostic devices. Launch's PAD/PRO diagnostic devices (10+ inches)
paired with EVMIX240 support battery balancing maintenance and charging-discharging tests for new energy
vehicles. This reduces device costs and floor space, making it ideal for repair shops with limited budgets or space.
One device achieves multiple functions.
2. Precision cell balancing
Supports simultaneous balancing of 24 cells, compatible with mainstream battery types including ternary lithium,
lithium iron phosphate, and lithium titanate.
3. High-current efficient charging/discharging
Supports 40A charging and 20A discharging currents to quickly adjust cells to target voltages, meeting rapid
charging/discharging needs for battery modules.
4. Parallel high-efficiency operation
Enables simultaneous diagnostic and balancing/charging-discharging operations without interference. Real-time
monitoring of balancing progress, charging-discharging curves, and device status is supported during concurrent
tasks.
5. Multiple safety protections
Built-in protection mechanisms against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuits, reverse polarity, and
overheating to ensure safe operation of devices and batteries.

Product Usage
I. Device Connection
Step 1: Connect the high voltage
plugs to the positive and
negative battery terminals.
Plug the DC high voltage interface plug into the "DC
output port" of the device, and connect the other end
to the positive and negative terminals of the battery
module.
I. Device Connection
Step 2: Connect the voltage acquisition cable to the battery cell.
Plug the male connector of the voltage acquisition cable into the front interface of the device, and connect the other
end to the corresponding battery cells one by one according to the numbers on the voltage acquisition cable.
(1) If the number of cells to be measured does not exceed 12: Connect the channel 1 interface of the device with a
13-pin voltage acquisition cable;
(2) If the number of cells to be measured exceeds 12: Connect more cells to the channel 2 interface of the device with
a 12-pin voltage acquisition cable (up to 24 cells supported).
I. Device Connection
Step 3: Operating power connection
Use the power cord supplied with the device to connect its power port to the outlet for power supply, and ensure that
the input voltage matches. After closing the DC switch at the rear of the main unit, if the power light on the top of the
main unit lights up green, it indicates a correct connection. If it lights up red, it indicates an incorrect wiring
connection.
II. Connect the Diagnostic Device
(1) On the home page of the diagnostic device, click the "Toolbox" button, then click either the "Battery Equalizer" or
"Battery Charger&Discharger" button within the expansion module to start the corresponding app.
II. Connect the Diagnostic Device
