PSU2 Cards. OVERVIEW OF LUCENT 5ESS DCS

SM2000

• PSU2 uses three types of protocol handlers:

– FRPH (PH4/PH22) - terminates packet pipes
– PHV - converts encoded and compressed voice and/or data packets to/from
PCM samples
– PHA - interconnects packet switching units
• Each shelf contains:
– 16 circuit board slots
– Access to 768 minus 1 control time slot leaving 767 configurable time slots

PH22(FRPH) OVERVIEW OF LUCENT 5ESS DCS

FRPH on the PH22 supports:

•240 PPCUs
• Up to 64 Packet Pipes (1-DS0 PP)
• 64 Time Slots per FRPH
•DF2 is required to be used on all PSU2 shelves equipped with PH22s
• Maximum active FRPH-PH22s on a PSU2 shelf is 11
• The number of PPs which terminate on a PH22-FRPH Increases due to the
increased number of DS0s (64) and number of PPCUs(240)
•At Reliance, Two 15 DS0 PP and one 13 DS0 PP are terminated on PH22-FRPH

PHV5 Card OVERVIEW OF LUCENT 5ESS DCS

Protocol handler for voice (PHV):

– Part of PSU2
– Transmits and receives packets through the FRPH
– Converts voice packets from cell into 64 kbps PCM voice and viceversa
– Supports 3G HSPD channels on RLP3 circuits

19
DPH(PHV5) OVERVIEW OF LUCENT 5ESS DCS

•DF2 is required to be used on PSU2 shelves equipped with PHV5s

• Dynamic Allocation of Vocoders (DVA)
• Multiple vocoder algorithm on a PHV5
– 13kbps and EVRC (CEV13)
• The maximum number of PHV5s that can beequipped per PSU2 shelf is 11
•DPH on a PHV5 supports up to 64 3G-1X HSPD calls (at the fundamental data rate
of 9.6kbps)
• The DPH supports simultaneous forward andreverse bursts at discrete data burst
of 2x, 4x,8x and 16x the fundamental data rate.

SS7 OVERVIEW OF LUCENT 5ESS DCS
• CCS7 protocol - Three applications are used in
the FLEXENT / AUTOPLEX system:
– First is the ISDN user part (ISUP) with out-of-band signaling ISUP implements circuit
related function including call setup
• ISUP is used in 5ESS. DCS and the PSTN signaling
– Second type is the ANSI-41
• ANSI-41 is for non-circuit related applications
• ANSI-41 is used as follows:
– Point-to-point signaling to other AUTOPLEX MSCs
– Signaling to signal transfer points (STP)
– The third type is Lucent proprietary signaling
Signaling System 7 Nodes (SS7N)
– The third type is Lucent proprietary signaling
• Used between the 5ESS. DCS and the ECPC
