DANCE
INTRODUCTION
This is the art of the human form. The body is used mobilized and
choreographed in a specific time, form, and space.
Manifested in different dynamics and forms grew out of the various contexts
and experiences of the people.
HISTORY OF DANCE
From the earliest moments of known human history, dance accompanied ancient
rituals, spiritual gatherings and social events. As a conduit of trance, spiritual force,
pleasure, expression, performance and interaction, dance became infused into our
nature from the earliest moments of our existence - from the moment when first
African tribes covered themselves in war-paint to the to the spreading of music and
dance across all four corners of the world. Without a doubt, dancing remains one of
the most expressive forms of communications that we know.
TYPES OF DANCE
TAP DANCE
focuses on timing and beats. The name originates from the tapping sounds
made when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch the ground.
BALLET
mostly performed to classical music, this dance style focuses on strength,
technique and flexibility.
JAZZ
a high-energy dance style involving kicks, leaps and turns to the beat of the
music.
HIPHOP
performed mostly to hip-hop music, this urban dance style can involve
breaking, popping, locking and freestyling.
MODERN DANCE
Is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet,
focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings.
FOLK DANCE
A popular dance, considered as part of the tradition or custom of a particular
people.
