Frame Analysis with Space Gass Tutorial

The document provides steps for conducting a frame analysis using Space Gass software: 1) Define the frame geometry, material properties, loads, and load combinations 2) Input self-weight, superimposed dead, and live loads as primary load cases 3) Define combination load cases including serviceability short-term, serviceability long-term, and ultimate limit states 4) Analyze the frame under all load cases and combinations to obtain design actions like bending moments, shear forces, and deflections

Frame analysis using Space Gass

1) Define material properties, geometry of the

frame, member sizes, restraints and member
fixities
2) Input primary loads such as SW, DL and LL and
wind loads
3) Define load combinations required for design
4) Analyse the structure
5) Obtain design actions, such as M*, V*, N* and
deflections resulting from critical load
combinations

Spacegass grillage analysis - Load case Inputs
• Primary Load case inputs
– Load case 1: self weight (dead load) of RC frame (spacegass calculates
provided you have specified section size and material type)
– Load case 2: superimposed dead loads
– Load case 3: Live load

• Combination load case input

– Load case 10: Serviceability Short-term (1.0x dead load x 0.7 Live
load)
– Load case 11: Serviceability Long-term (1.0x dead load x 0.4 Live
load)
– Load case 12: Ultimate (1.2x dead load x 1.5 Live load)
