[Link] Issue 10 24 October 2023
Introduction to the Dolby IMS3000
2.1 Dolby IMS3000 models
The IMS3000 has a robust feature set, flexible storage options, and an exclusive scalable design.
The IMS3000 can be paired with any external cinema processor, such as the Dolby CP950 or CP950A,
providing an exceptional experience up to and including Dolby Atmos. Or, the IMS3000 can be field-enabled
to offer standalone internal audio processing for 5.1/7.1 or the full power of Dolby Atmos.
There are three IMS3000 models:
• The IMS3-NB contains SDI inputs that support Dual Projector chase mode and playback of content via SDI
Inputs.
• The IMS3-DS does not include SDI connections and supports single projector installations only.
• The IMS3-L-NB is designed for cinema LED wall applications.
2.2 Dolby IMS3000 web UI
The Dolby IMS3000 includes a web user interface (UI) that enables you to configure and control audio and
video settings, ingest content, ingest a Key Delivery Message (KDM), build a show playlist (SPL), and load an
SPL for playback.
The IMS3000 model, configuration, and software version determine whether certain sections of the web UI
are available, or if they display differently, based on the mode (Server Mode, Server + Main Audio, Server +
Atmos Processor).
You can access the Dolby IMS3000 web UI with any web browser, either in private or cookie-tracked browser
modes. However, we recommend using Google Chrome.
2.3 Dolby IMS3000 packing lists
The Dolby IMS3000 packing list is dependent on the storage option ordered.
Packing list for internal storage, 1 TB hard-disk drives
• A box containing a Dolby IMS3000 (no storage) and cable accessories
• A box containing three 2.5" 1 TB HDDs with hard disk drive (HDD) carriers
Packing list for internal storage, 2 TB solid-state drives
• A box containing a Dolby IMS3000 (no storage) and cable accessories

Dolby IMS3000 front panel
2.4 Dolby IMS3000 front panel
The Dolby IMS3000 front panel identifies all the connectors, internal HDD slots, and light-emitting diode
(LED) indicators.
Although the connections are the same across all the SKUs, the front panel’s nobs and levers will differ based
on the Dolby IMS3000 you purchase.
Figure 1: Front panel
2.5 Dolby IMS3000 RTC battery life and shelf life
The Dolby IMS3000 contains a real-time clock (RTC). The RTC determines the unlocking of playback keys and
other functions.
The RTC has a rechargeable battery backup but is not field replaceable. The RTC battery has a life expectancy
of ten years under normal use conditions but a shelf life of only one year when fully charged.
The owner is responsible for ensuring that the Dolby IMS3000 RTC battery is properly charged. If a Dolby
IMS3000 has been in storage for at least six months, we recommend charging the RTC battery. To charge the
RTC battery, you must place the Dolby IMS3000 into a projector or Dolby Docking Station and then power on
the device. The Dolby IMS3000 RTC battery requires 60 hours of continuous power for a full charge.
2.6 Default user names and passwords
The Dolby IMS3000 includes default user names and their corresponding default passwords. Each user name
corresponds to a unique log in level with its own privileges to perform certain tasks. The most senior level
user name is root, and the least level user name is ingest.
These default user names and passwords are preconfigured with the Dolby IMS3000:
• User name: root. For the password, contact Dolby if it is unknown or is needed
• User name: admin, password: 1234
• User name: manager, password: password
• User name: doremi, password: doremi
• User name: ingest, password: ingest
By default, the user name accounts are hard coded into the system software and cannot be deleted or
modified.
2.7 LTC output
The Dolby IMS3000 outputs linear timecode (LTC) via the HD-BNC connector marked as LTC OUT on the
faceplate. The LTC is not user configurable. The LTC outputs automatically during playback.
The LTC is generated in Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames ([Link]) format, beginning from the start of
each clip. The timecode resets after each clip and does not track the timecode of the SPL.

4.1 Understanding the main storage NAS
The QNAP Systems, Inc., NAS (Dolby part number NAS-Q1-HDD) hardware device ships with the Dolby
IMS3000 if you purchased the external storage option. This external storage option provides a significantly
larger amount of space for content. This solution utilizes four 3.5" 4 TB drives, allowing approximately 11 TB
of formatted redundant array of independent disks (RAID) 5 storage.
This external storage option cannot be used in conjunction with the internal RAID option.
The Main Storage NAS ships from the factory with the networking configuration and login credentials below.
The ethernet1 port includes these settings:
• IP address: [Link]
• Subnet: [Link]
You must directly connect the Dolby IMS3000 to the ethernet1 port.
Note: It is important to remember which port is used on the Dolby IMS3000, as it is needed to
configure the storage on the Dolby IMS3000 webUI.
The ethernet2 port includes these settings:
• IP address: [Link]
• Subnet: [Link]
The Main Storage NAS has an offline ingest feature, which allows you to ingest content into the NAS when the
Dolby IMS3000 is powered off.
To use this offline ingest feature, configure the ethernet2 port to connect to the theatre’s media network.
The default user name is admin, and the password is password.
Note: Shared Main Storage configuration for Chase systems are different. For more information about

Chase configuration overview
Chase configuration overview
8
Chase enables both the IMS3-NB and IMS3-L-NB servers to play the same content in synchronization.
The primary server uses time code to synchronize playback on the secondary server. This allows both
the primary and secondary server to play the same video frames.
In a chase mode environment, Dolby recommends that auditorium functions like auditorium lighting,
curtain controls, audio processor controls should come from the primary IMS3000. In most cases, this
is a recommendation; however, in connecting to an external Dolby Atmos processor like the CP850 and
CP950A, it is a requirement that communication and connection be with the primary IMS3000.
Important: All IMS3-NB and IMS3-L-NB servers are physically identical, which means you
need to decide which will be primary and which will be secondary, based on your
preference.
Note: The IMS3-DS does not have SDI connections and cannot support chase mode.
This chapter covers the following topics:
• Connecting cables for chase
• Primary server configuration for chase
• Secondary server configuration for chase
• Storage management
• Supported SFP+ modules and switches for the main storage NAS
• Configuring left and right eye configurations for 3D systems with Chase
• Managing macros in chase mode

8.4 Storage management
Information about storage management is provided here.
The Dolby IMS3000 in single projector mode has two different storage settings:
• Internal storage configuration
• External storage (Main storage NAS) configuration
When chase mode is configured, a third option becomes available:
• Shared storage configuration (Main storage NAS)
8.4.1 Configuring chase mode with dedicated internal storage
In this configuration the primary and secondary IMS3000 will each have their own dedicated Internal Storage
[i.e., (3) 2.5” 1TB HDD or (3) 2.5” 2TB SSDs]. For chase mode to function properly, it is required that primary
and secondary server have identical content (CPLs) on their dedicated storage, this includes Show Playlists.
That means it is recommended to ingest the SPL onto both the Primary and Secondary server, either build
the SPL on the TMS or Primary server then transfer/ingest the SPL onto the Secondary server.

Managing macros in chase mode
8.7 Managing macros in chase mode
In a Chase mode configuration, the primary and secondary servers typically contain their own set of
automation cues, for example, to control their connected projector functions. Since both primary and
secondary servers share SPLs, there are two options for handling macros (automation cues and trigger cues).
Option 1
The automation cues on both the primary and secondary servers share the same names. This also requires
the devices within the Device Manager to share the same name (For example, Projector named Projector.)
Here are some examples:
• Primary and secondary servers contain an automation cue named exactly the same that opens the
projector dowser. Name: Open Dowser, Target Device: Projector
• In the Device manager, both primary and secondary servers must have a projector device named
Projector. (The IP address can and should differ)
Configuring your macros this way allows the SPL to call the Open Dowser macro and individual
functionality occurs for the primary and secondary servers. In addition, a user can use the Chase
Tools>Sync Macro functionality within the Macro editor to synchronize the primary and secondary
macros.
Option 2
Primary and secondary server macros can have different names or target different devices. In this scenario,
when you build your macros, be sure that the SPL includes both sets of automation cues.
Here is an example:
• The primary server has an automation cue named Primary Open Dowser and the secondary server has an
automation cue named Secondary Open Dowser.

15.3 Internal audio processor and external amplifiers
The Dolby IMS3000 internal audio processor is backward compatible with 5.1 and 7.1 content.
By incorporating the cinema audio processor into the Dolby IMS3000, there are improvements in
Dolby Atmos content handling. Only one KDM is required to play back all the essence files: Main Picture, Main
Audio, Main Subtitle, and Dolby Atmos. The Dolby IMS3000 keeps the Dolby Atmos audio synchronized with
Dolby IMS3000 Installation Manual 89
[Link] Issue 10 24 October 2023
Setting up the Dolby IMS3000 audio
the Main Picture, without needing the sync signal on AES channel 14. There is no need to request content
decryption KDMs that disable Audio Forensic Marking above Channel 12.
The Dolby IMS3000 supports these audio formats for the HDMI input:
• Dolby Atmos (consumer) at 48 kHz and 96 kHz
• Dolby Digital at 48 kHz
• Dolby Digital Plus at 48 kHz and 96 kHz
• Dolby TrueHD at 48 kHz, 96 kHz, and 192 kHz
• PCM at 48 kHz, 96 kHz, and 192 kHz
• PCM at 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 88.2 kHz, and 176.4 kHz using sample rate conversion.
The Dolby IMS3000 provides several methods to output audio.
You can use the Dolby IMS3000 Dolby Atmos Connect ports (AES67 protocol) to one or more Dolby DAC3202
units or Dolby Multichannel Amplifier units.
You can also use the 16-channel AES3 digital outputs (alone or in combination with the AES67 connection).
Note that these may need to be converted to analog for use with certain amplifiers.
The AES3 outputs can be reassigned using Dolby Atmos Designer software for your individual speaker feeds.
If any speaker feeds are assigned to the AES3 outputs, this will disable the pass-through of any other
channels. This is noteworthy if you are using any of these channels for motion chair or other applications, as
they typically use Channel 13.
If you are not installing Dolby Atmos, you can configure the audio for a Dolby Surround 7.1 auditorium. You
can use the Dolby Atmos Connect ports via AES67 or the 16-channel AES3 digital outputs. The Dolby DAC3202
and the Dolby Multichannel Amplifier are supported, or you can use a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to
interface with analog amplifiers.
Connecting more than one Dolby DAC3202 or Dolby Multichannel Amplifier or a
combination
You can use Dolby audio devices such as the Dolby DAC3202 and Dolby Multichannel Amplifier, or a
combination of these, together.
For more information, refer to the Dolby Multichannel Amplifier User’s Manual .
Attention:
The Dolby DAC3201 uses a Blulink protocol and is not supported for use with the Dolby IMS3000.

KDM information
KDM information
16
Having the Dolby IMS3000 in Server Mode allows it to be paired with an external audio processor like
the Dolby CP850 and CP950A.
Now that the IMS3000 supports Server Mode and a mode with internal audio processing (IMS3000 +
Atmos Processing) it can result in different KDM types depending on the situation.
The result is that in some situations the way that keys are controlled must be modified.
Single KDM mode
The Dolby IMS3000 uses the internal Dolby Atmos enabled audio processor and requires a single KDM
to play back. This does not change from the current KDM distribution method for Dolby IMS3000
servers.
Dual KDM mode
The Dolby IMS3000 is paired with a CP850 or CP950A. Two KDMs are issued in this configuration.
The dual KDM mode is an identical process currently used with Barco Alchemy and CP850, and the
same KDM distribution methods used with that product combination will work with the Dolby IMS3000
when paired with an outboard immersive audio processor.
Ultimately, the decision of what KDM to send is based on:
Table 2: KDM information
Dolby Atmos screen with Dolby IMS3000
Dolby IMS3000 only Provide single KDM
Dolby IMS3000 with CP850 or CP950A Provide dual KDM
To create playback keys for the Dolby IMS3000, CP850 or CP950A, you will need the certificate for each
device. These certificates can be downloaded from one of Dolby’s sites:
• [Link]/cinema/Certificates: Has a web user interface that allows you to type in
the serial number of the device and be presented with the certificate for download. No log in is
required to access this site.

18.3 SNMP monitoring
The Dolby IMS3000 supports remote monitoring through SNMP, which is a generic protocol used to monitor
networked devices. It enables central management systems to get information or alarms from these devices.
There are two management information base (MIB) files: [Link] and
[Link]. You need a dedicated MIB browser to view both files.
The MIB files are stored on the Dolby IMS3000 at /dolby/etc/snmp/.
18.4 ASCII serial commands
The Dolby IMS3000 can receive simple American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII)
commands over Ethernet (port 61408).
This table lists the Dolby IMS3000 ASCII commands.

The Cinema Server Control application from Dolby lets you use your Apple iOS or Android tablet to give you
wireless access and control of your Dolby IMS3000 web UI.
Figure 98: Cinema Server Control icon
With a Bluetooth connection, you can enable booth operation of each available server from a single mobile
device, with no physical connection between a personal computer (PC) or servers required. You have access
to all primary server functions, such as playback controls, playlist building, and audio controls. The tablet
does need to be within Bluetooth range of the target server.
The Bluetooth connection is secured via authentication when the connection is first made to help prevent
unauthorized access.
The Dolby IMS3000 requires a Dolby approved USB Bluetooth adapter (which is model ASUS USB-BT400).
We recommend a minimum screen size for the tablet of 9.6" (244 mm) with an extra-high-density screen (320
dpi minimum). Smaller devices, like phones, cannot load the Cinema Server Control application. This

Dual projector configurations
The Dolby IMS3000 can use the following image output settings, depending on the desired configuration. You
should perform this configuration in the Device managerr on both the primary and secondary server
projector devices.
• Full (left and right): The Dolby IMS3000 outputs both left and right eye images on 3D content.
• Left: The Dolby IMS3000 outputs only the left eye images on 3D content.
• Right: The Dolby IMS3000 outputs only the right eye images on 3D content.
If you select the Left/Right options, the Show Playlist should never be set to 3D or 3D HFR. Since each
IMS3000 plays either the left or right sequence of images, 2D or 4K SPL is the correct selection.
If the Full options are selected, the Show Playlist could be set to 2D, 3D, 3D HFR, or 4K as required. In 3D and
3D HFR mode, the IMS3000 outputs both left and right images.
