Dear Officers,
I hope this email does not bother you. I am Yinjie Zhao, applicant ID XXX. I am
writing to express my continued and enthusiastic interest in attending the Economics
program at Carnegie Mellon University. I kindly request you reassess my ability and
allow me to enrol directly on the program. CMU is the ideal place for me to develop
individually and academically. I believe that my academic and extracurricular profile
proved me a good match for your program that is worthy of an offer.
Carnegie Mellon University has always been my dream school. It has always been at
the forefront of education, integrating critical thinking and experimental spirit into
every inch of academic soil. I am particularly interested in the Economics program
because CMU has the world’s top facilities, cooperates with real-world companies
and provides interdisciplinary collaboration networks. I am eager to integrate
fragmented knowledge into systematic solutions in the diverse ecology of CMU,
explore my academic potential and achieve individual improvement. Through
academic accumulation, I am also determined to address practical issues and avoid
financial risks. I understand that being put on the waitlist demonstrates that your
University acknowledges my ability and sees my potential in my past experiences.
Therefore, I want to further express my love for CMU and my match for the
Economics program. After my initial application, I continued to accumulate
professional experience and consolidate my desire to join CMU.
I have solid academic strengths and demonstrate strong potential. Academically, I
have maintained a strong record, with nearly all of my grades being straight As across
both the IB and AP systems. I engaged in studies in Korea and Vancouver due to the
impact of the pandemic and was forced to study in different systems. However, I
managed to achieve outstanding academic performance in almost all courses. My
unique educational background demonstrates my learning ability and potential to
perform well in a competitive environment. In addition, I consolidated my passion for
studying advanced Economics courses at CMU through my coursework in economics,
mathematics, and related fields. Apart from my educational performance, I spared no
effort in investigating opportunities to expand my knowledge and practice
professional skills. I believe that participating in competitions can provide young
students like me with an environment to interact with outstanding peers and motivate
me to work even harder. After competing in the prestigious Shing-Tung Yau
Competition, I have conducted research on digital currencies. My work was later
published after communicating with scholars in the field, where I acknowledged the
importance of systematic learning and possibilities in Economics. I have also
participated in numerous economics competitions, earning recognition for my
understanding of global economic issues, and dedicated extensive time to independent
reading to broaden my perspective. This summer, I further challenged myself by
completing Stanford’s pre-collegiate program. I performed well in classes and
obtained top grades (95-98/100) in both Economics and English. Through my self-
directed study and independent research, I was able to push through my boundaries
and achieve personal breakthroughs at Stanford. At CMU, I am also dedicated to
constantly improving myself and addressing social issues with my academic
strengths.
I am unique in my interdisciplinary abilities and strong knowledge accumulation.
Through my solid performance in courses like Physics, Mathematics, and History, I
can better study and predict Economic phases and study the fluctuating economic
status during times of trading policy instability. My experience indicated my
analytical and creative thinking skills to thrive in your community. I have a clear plan
for my future studies and career, where I intend to expand on my interest in financial
crisis and global policy, strengthen my knowledge base through systematic studies
and investigate topics of interest for my postgraduate or PhD studies. After
graduation, I intend to work in major institutions like the IMF of Economic
Consulting Institutions to practice my accumulation through the years. In the long run,
I plan to start my company of Economics consulting and trend analysis. I look
forward to joining CMU so that I can contribute my determination and curiosity to the
academic strengths of your University.
I kindly implore you to consider issuing me an offer instead of putting me in the
waitlist. Thank you so much for your attention. I eargerly await your rpely.
Yours sincerely,
Yinjie Zhao
