FELIX ASANTE AND THOMAS WILLIAM ADOFO

‘TRULY-SRC’

THE EXTRA MILE AGENDA

UNIFYING WITH YOU TO MEET NEEDS

AND DEMANDS MANIFESTO
Preface
“Let us not forget the GENESIS OF THE SRC, to UNIFY as one
students’ body to fight for a common good cause; and that is a Truly
SRC”

Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has always been expected to stand-in for the students to
meet their needs and demands, rightful needs and demands. The above was the basis for which
the SRC was established. Now, let us ask whether the SRC has been living up its core duty?
According to the ATU-SRC Constitution, Article 5, the SRC is to first of all comprise of the
entire students’ body and next, few who represent the students as front-liners. We have never
been against policies, realistic policies, but then, we have been against those who for personal
interests’ sake, just use deceitful means to attain SRC Executive Positions and neglect what they
are expected to do. Can we blame them entirely? Maybe there has never been a unified students’
body right from sections, faculties, departments and so on.
This is why some of us have come up to UNIFY WITH YOU the student in order to be able to
meet needs and demands. Whatever policies we have, whatever actions we may stand to take if
we do not unify as a students’ body, then we are likely not to be able to achieve.

In this manifesto, we seek to explain vividly and realistically what we can achieve as we UNIFY
WITH YOU, and that is THE EXTRA MILE AGENDA (TEMA)

Mr. Chairman, members of the electoral commission, colleague aspirants, fellow students, ladies
and gentlemen, all protocols duly observed. “I greet you all”

It is with much pleasure that we stand before everyone present to read this manifesto to the entire
student populace. Mr. Chairman, I am Felix Asante and I am with my running mate in the person
of Thomas William Adolfo.

We vie for the position of SRC President and Vice president because we believe it’s a way of
contributing our quota to the progress and development of this noble institution through student
leadership. Student leadership is driven by the responsibility of making decisions that will
improve the quality of the time spent by students of our prestigious and envied institution
regardless of the department they belong to and the mode of education.

We officially want to introduce to you the extra mile agenda with the sub-theme “unified with
you because you’re the focus”: Mr. Chair to be able to go to the TEMA JOURNEY, we need to
focus on our key subjects or stakeholders and be unified with them.

The chair, the extra mile agenda is such that, it will dwell on 3 major areas of execution which
are

1
 Establishment Of Priorities
 Positioning The Operating Framework
 Apportioning Resources Accordingly

Mr. Chairman, the position of the presidency is a portfolio that comes with great responsibilities,
a very sensitive area that contributes to the well-being of students and serves as the drivers of the
very ship sailing to a promised land, and as such these figureheads must be resolute, vision
bearers and results-oriented. We applaud our gallant predecessors for a good job done, which we
intend to build on with much alacrity and dedication to the core.

Mr. Chairman, our policies and programs will fall under the following 5 thematic areas….

Academics, communication, (health, water & sanitation), safety &security, entertainment

& sports are accompanied by some special policies.

These various areas have under them detailed policies and programs that we believe will help our
noble institution. Mr. Chair, we would like to move on to delve into my policies:

ACADEMICS
 Liaise with management for the 24/7 availability of the library
 Lobby through the management to get sponsorships to help renovate the learning center and
equip it with study benches as well, if possible, acquire new learning centers to aid studying
on campus
 Lobby for provision of adequate PA SYSTEMS AND PROJECTORS to various
departments
 Recognize and award students with high academic excellence
 Advocate for proper location of lecturer halls for classes with a large student population
 Helping students access student scholarships like Mastercard and others
 Advocating for graduation fee to be part of final year school fees instead of making separate
payment
 Lobby for the creation of study rooms within the hostels

COMMUNICATION

 Strategically lobby for an electronic notice board to be situated at the back gate and main
entrance for students to get information
 Use of bulk messaging systems to send out a notice to the student to complement posted
information.

2

 Together with the environment and sanitation department and support from zoom lion
company introduce “THE ZOOM DAY” this activity will duly observe a general clean-
up exercise once a month to help ensure a good environment
 In conjunction with the university clinic organize health campaigns on campus each
semester
 Strategically seek sponsorship from pharmaceutical companies to help refurbish the
school clinic with drugs
 Organize seminars on first aid issues and the provision of first aid kits at strategic points
on campus, such students can treat emergency cases in that regard.
 Seeking sponsorship from a toiletry company to provide students with toiletries at the
beginning of each semester
 Together with the maintenance officer and management make sure there’s a 24/7
uninterrupted flow of water to various hostels by the expansion of water reservoirs.
 Lobby through management for the renovation of washroom facilities on campus and
also a champion for the newly built modern wash and changing room facility specifically
for non-residents who come to study throughout the night during the examination, since
most of them are not being allowed to enter the hostels
 Together with colleague executives lobby management to solve the water leakages
situation at various hostels and lecture halls
 Extension of school clinic working hours
 Wifi coverage extension

SAFETY & SECURITY

 We intend to lobby through management for the construction of speed ramps at Tudu
Lane at the university’s back gate; this will reduce the speed of vehicles since motorists
move haphazardly on the road daily which makes students prone to danger
 Together with colleague executives lobby management to intensify security on campus
mostly at nights
 We shall liaise with management to improve the lighting system on campus, such that
students can feel safe at night on campus
 Hostel plant to ensure availability of light for security purposes

court such that spectators can comfortably sit and enjoy events.

SPECIAL POLICIES

 Student in Online business (STIBO) – We intend to organize a pitch competition for

computer science students to develop a system for online business. The developed system
will be connected to icampus to enable a student who has businesses to promote their
product and services and to purchase. This will eventually create income for SRC while
promoting entrepreneurship.
 Students Agric Project (STAGRIP) – Agriculture contributes to a large portion of the
nation’s economy. A student who is admitted into the university and has an interest in
agriculture will be enrolled in this training. They will be sent to the new campus on
weekends to learn the skills while producing products that can be brought to the school
canteen to be sold. The trained students can be employed to work on the farm after to
receive some remuneration.

 Mobilization & Development Fund (MODEF) – We intend to do a deduction of 20gh

from the dues students pay to the SRC purposely for project developments. This will help in
getting funds to carry out various projects stated above.
 Sow To Earn Project (The Hifas Step) – We intend to commit money to purchasing
machines for sowing and selecting outstanding students from the fashion departments to be
in charge. Students will then be linked to the team formed to get their clothes sown by the
selected students. This would generate funds for the SRC, the fashion department, and the
student workers.
 Exchange Programmes
Again, are we just to come back and forth in school and complete without having any
impactful experience? The concept of the exchange programme is to give students the

4
opportunity to have an experience in other tertiary institutions as we also host some of the
students from other universities as well.

Let us consider another instance, where Built Environment or Business Faculty students
is sent to another tertiary institution for a week or two while that university’s pertinent
students are also hosted in our institution for each party to be able to experience how it is
studying in different environments. This aside developing the students per socially and
mentally, can also strengthen ties and relationships between the involved institutions.

It is even hoped that, we might have this programme internationally and not just
domestically.

 Organize industrial expos or forums.

As a technical university, it is quite unfortunate not much innovative ideas are put in
place to engage students in programmes that will be of much benefit to their career and
what they study. This idea of an expo or forum is to have an intensive set of days where
students interact with industries or companies related to their courses of study,
eventually, hoping to gain much knowledge and skill as well as employment
opportunities.

For instance, with Volkz Wagen (VW) and Toyota having plants in Ghana now,
engineering students, specifically automobile and mechanical engineering, can through
the industrial expo have the chance to interact with VW or Toyota as well as demonstrate
what skills they have.

Such an instance above, goes for every other field of study, and this we hope can be very
helpful to students. It should not be the normal way where students just enroll in school
and then just complete without experiencing any practical impact.

Mr. Chairman, electoral commission, outgoing executives, colleague aspirants, fellow students,
ladies, and gentlemen.

5
We want to assure you all that when given the nod, all policies stated above in this manifesto
will strategically be prioritized to be achieved successfully.

However, it is also our utmost desire to hold in high esteem the central goal of the src, working
harmoniously with colleagues to attain the core objective of the entire team.

Ladies and gentlemen, we humbly ask that you UNIFY with us so we can go the EXTRA MILE.
Hence, THE EXTRA MILE AGENDA (TEMA).

Long Live GHANA!

Long Live ATU!!

Long Live The SRC!!!
