The Sky Is Pink is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language biographical romantic
comedy-drama film written and directed by Shonali Bose. The film stars
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim and Rohit Suresh
Saraf, and is based on the true story of Aisha Chaudhary, who suffered
from severe combined immunodeficiency and pulmonary fibrosis, and
tells the story of her parents Aditi and Niren as they navigate their
marriage while dealing with their daughter's illness.
'The Sky Is Pink' is the incredible love story of a couple spanning 25
years, told through the lens of their teenage daughter who is dead.
Aisha Chaudhry is the main character and narrator in the movie "The
Sky Is Pink." She is based on a real-life person who suffered from
severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) and pulmonary fibrosis,
which eventually led to her death at the age of 18.
Aisha’s story is compelling and inspiring. The way she battled the severe
health problem with a smile on her face is admirable. Her story is a
testament to the power of love, family, and the human spirit, making her
character an excellent subject for analysis.
Aisha is a daughter of Niren Chaudhary and Aditi Chaudary, she calls
them Panda and Moose respectively. She has an elder brother named
Ishaan who she refers to as Giraffe. Her family calls her Aishi.
The most prominent emotion that Aisha faces throughout the movie is
that of guilt. She thinks that she is the reason that her parents are
quarrelling even after her death. From childhood she thinks that the main
cause of her parents' woes were her high pitched cries. To see her
parents struggling to make money in London for her treatments makes
her feel even more responsible. The main contributing factor was the
fact that her elder brother had to leave without his mother as her mother
was taking full time care for her. This can be seen when Aisha mentions
that Moose is missing Giraffe.
She even goes as far as calling herself the villain of the movie.
But from her mother’s point of view the birth of Aisha was something
special.
Aisha is a strong-willed and determined character who refuses to let her
medical condition define her. Despite her health challenges, she is
resilient and maintains a positive outlook on life. She is also an
inspiration to her family and others around her. Due to her medical
condition she had to be isolated from the crowd as her body did not
have a good immunity system so she was fairly confiscated to her house
in the early years of her life and had to visit the hospital every 6 months
for various tests. She went through all of this with a strong will and a
smile on her face. In her motivational speech, she has stated that she
chose to focus on humour which made her health journey much easier to
go through.
Despite her illness, Aisha was a motivational speaker and an author ,
she even published her book named ‘My little Epiphanies’ a day before
her death. She was an aspiring writer who uses her love of words to
express herself and communicate her feelings to those around her.
Not only was she a great writer , she was also good at painting. She
made her self portrait which presented her favourite spot in her room
and there was her dog and her laptop in which she watched movies. She
made this painting with the idea that, ‘even when she won’t be around,
she will be there’. She also was good at acting which is shown when
she mimics Amir khan and kareena kapoor in her school.
Aisha was brave. Aisha had to face numerous medical procedures and
treatments throughout her life, which requires immense bravery. She
does not shy away from her illness and instead chooses to confront it
head-on.
As a human being, Aisha was also irritated by the condition she was in
as she did not get to do the things that the people of her age can easily
do. For example, she was homeschooled for almost 13 years of her life
and was very excited when she got to go to normal school.
She was very fond of dogs but due to her condition she couldn't be with
them, once she touched a dog on the streets and her mother scolded
her and said that this much won’t kill her. But at the same time she was
also very accepting of her fate and knew that she couldn’t change it even
if she wanted to nor could she rewind it. She rejected lung transplant and
said that how will it be any different to die at 28 than at 18.
She had accepted her fate but she did have a breakdown which is
shown when she calls her brother and tells that she don’t want to die.
She is also a grateful person as she is grateful to her parents, as they
were the ones who created great moments in her life like snorkelling or
her mom helping her out with her school crush. Even after 18 years she
was grateful to the sunrise radio station who helped her in collecting
funds for her bone marrow transplant and also to the people in the great
ormond hospital.
She was comfortable around and with her family. She was comfortable
to the extent to discuss sex life of hers, her brother’s as well as her
parents.
Aisha is also shown to be a deep thinker and is often seen pondering the
meaning of life and death. She has a philosophical outlook on life and
uses her writing to express her thoughts and emotions.
Overall, Aisha Chaudhry is a remarkable character who embodies
strength, resilience, and love. Her character inspires us to live life to the
fullest and appreciate the time we have with our loved ones.
