- You find smell in the air conditioning outlets.

B. Principle of the Inspection Procedure
The inspection procedure gives:
- The specific mandatory Detailed Visual Inspection (DVI) of the external and internal surfaces of
the radome.
- The full inspection of the aircraft.

WARNING: AFTER A BIRD STRIKE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OPEN THE RADOME AND DO A
DETAILED VISUAL INSPECTION OF ITS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SURFACES.
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE RADOME WILL HAVE DISBONDING ALTHOUGH
THERE ARE NO ORGANIC REMAINS OR SIGNS OF IMPACT ON THE EXTERNAL
SURFACE. IF THE DAMAGE ON THE RADOME IS NOT FOUND AND REPAIRED,
THE RADOME CAN COLLAPSE DURING THE NEXT FLIGHTS.
(1) It is mandatory to open and to do a DVI of the external and internal surfaces of the radome after
each bird strike event. Although you did not find signs of bird strike (or other damage) during the
walk-around visual inspection, you must do this mandatory DVI.

NOTE: In some cases, the radome can have internal disbonding without organic residue or
signs of impact on the external surface.
(2) The full inspection of the aircraft is divided into three steps as follows:
(a) Walk-around visual inspection:
The walk-around visual inspection is to find signs of bird strike and/or damage on all
aircraft surfaces (from the ground and from the access platform).
(b) Cleaning of the signs of bird strike.
(c) Inspection of the area where you found signs of bird strike during the walk-around visual
inspection.
The inspections are divided into three phases:
1 Phase 1 inspections:
- The phase 1 inspections are General Visual Inspections (GVI) for primary
damage and signs of other related damage.
Most of the phase 1 inspections are of the external surfaces, but it can be
necessary to remove or open access panels or doors.

NOTE: It is always necessary to open the radome.

You must do all the phase 1 inspections.

- If you find damage during the phase 1 inspections and if these inspections
refer to the phase 2 inspections, do the related phase 2 inspections.
- If you find damage during the phase 1 inspections and if these inspections do
not refer to the phase 2 inspections, contact Airbus before the return-to-
service of the aircraft.
- If you do not find damage during the phase 1 inspections, it is not necessary
to do the phase 2 inspections.

NOTE: The specific mandatory DVI of the external and internal surfaces of the
radome is a phase 1 inspection.
2 Phase 2 inspections:
- The phase 2 inspections are more detailed than the phase 1 inspections. During
the phase 2 inspections, it can be necessary to remove the components.
- Most of the phase 2 inspections are internal.
- If you find damage during the phase 2 inspections and if these inspections refer to
the phase 3 inspections, do the related phase 3 inspections.
- If you find damage during the phase 2 inspections and if these inspections do not
refer to the phase 3 inspections, contact Airbus before the return-to-service of the
aircraft.
3 Phase 3 inspections:
- The phase 3 inspections are more detailed or give more instructions. During the
phase 3 inspections, it can be necessary to remove the components.
- Most of the phase 3 inspections are internal.
- If you find damage during the phase 3 inspections, contact Airbus before the
return-to-service of the aircraft.
(3) If there is damage to the aircraft structure, Ref. SRM 51-11-13.
(4) If there is damage on the system components, wires, pipes, ducts and attachments, refer to the
related system maintenance section.
(5) If there is damage on the electrical components, refer to the related Electrical Standard
Practices (ESP) section.

Make sure that there is no organic
residue on the radome.
- If you find organic residue, do the

A Inspection of the radome:
After a bird strike event, a disbonding
can occur.
You must pay special attention to the
inspection of the internal surface of the
radome for disbonding. The disbonding
is reflected by small impacts such as
"white spots" and discoloration of an
abnormal shaped area.

of damage on the radome and their
related explanations, Ref. AMM TASK

- Do a DVI of the external surface X
of the radome (skin, studs,
latches, etc.) for:
- Scratches

- Damaged paintwork, or
- Other damage.

radome, do a DVI for signs of
delamination and/or disbonding.

move from one checkpoint to the other.
The points shown in the reference figures give you the checkpoints for the sequence of the walk-
around visual inspection.
(2) Do the walk-around visual inspection in good lighting conditions (for example, daylight or hangar
light).

ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU
CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.

Do the walk-around visual inspection of all the aircraft surfaces.
Do the walk-around visual inspection from:
- The ground
- The cabin windows
- The ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT).
(a) Do a check for:
- Impact damage or signs of bird strike, for example organic material (blood spatter,
bird remains, feathers and others)
- Fuel, oil or hydraulic leaks
- Missing parts.
(b) Record the area(s) where you found signs of bird strike or damage in the tables.

put them in a re-sealable Bag - plastic.
(b) For small pieces of bird feathers and/or tissue, remove and put them in a re-sealable Bag
