Year 7 Fine Art Homework Project
• You will complete your homework in the A5 homework
book you created in your lesson at the start of the year.
• This Homework Project has 6 tasks to choose from.
• Complete 3 out of the 6 tasks, but you can complete
all of them if you wish.
• Remember to work on BOTH sides of each page.
• The book needs to be handed to your teacher by the
due date specified on Bromcom.
Task 1: Personalise
• If you haven’t already, personalise the covers of
your book by decorating it.
• Check that your full name is displayed clearly
on the front.
Task 2: Sketching from observation
This task helps you to LOOK and to draw what is there.
You are exploring SHAPE and PROPORTION.
1. Pick an object.
2. Divide your page into 8 rectangles.
3. Use pencil or pen.
4. Sketch your object in one of the
rectangles. Think! What interests
you, what kind of shapes are there?
5. Draw your object from another
viewpoint.
6. Keep changing your viewpoint until
all of the rectangles are full.
This task should take no more than 30 minutes.
Task 3: Negative space drawing
This task helps you to draw ACCURATELY.
You are exploring SHAPE and SPACE.
• In art, negative space is the space around and
between the subject of the image.
• The positive space is the subject or object of the
image.
• Being aware of the shapes negative space makes
can help us draw shapes more accurately.
1. Pick an object.
2. Use pencil or pen.
3. DO NOT Sketch your object -
Sketch the shapes around the
object!
This task should take no more than 30 minutes.
Task 4: Upside down drawing
This task helps you to LOOK and to draw what
is REALLY there, not what you THINK might be
there.
You will be using the RIGHT side of your brain
(creative) not the LEFT (logic).
1. Draw the image.
2. It MUST stay upside down, and
you MUST draw it exactly as you
see it.
3. Use pencil or pen.
This task should take no more than 30 minutes.
Task 5: Continuous line drawing
This task helps you to LOOK at and ANALYSE and object.
You are exploring SHAPE and PROPORTION.
1. Pick 5 objects from your kitchen and
arrange them.
2. You are going to make a 10 minute
drawing of the objects WITHOUT
taking your pen or pencil off the
paper. The drawing will be made
from 1 continuous line.
3. It might help to make a practise
drawing on a scrap piece pf paper
before you start your final drawing
in your sketchbook.
This task should take no more than 20 minutes.
Task 6: Blind contour drawing
This task helps you to LOOK and to draw what
is REALLY there.
• Blind contour drawing is when a line drawing is
done without looking at the paper AT ALL.
• This helps train you to look more often at your
subject than look at your paper.
1. Pick 5 objects from your kitchen and
arrange them.
2. Make a 10 minute drawing of the objects
WITHOUT looking at the paper at all!
3. Rearrange the objects and try to make a
second 10 minute drawing using the same
technique.
This task should take no more than 30 minutes.
