are for the service why not play fair and don’t cheat by vote buying? Vote buying has been
a major issue in the philippines because a few or even plenty of politicians vote buy, this is
an issue because of the poverty of the philippines most people that need the money will be
blinded by the money that these politicians offer [Link] is evident on the over 100
confirmed cases of vote buying that happened last 2023 election period, where in they
would secretly give the money to people in exchange of their votes, luckily there were
politicians that got caught before they abuse their position or even steal the money of
people since most politicians that vote buy are position or money hungry politicians since
there are no other incentives to cheat if you don't receive anything in return.
First reason why vote buying is bad is because it makes way for poor governance in the
location or even in the country since the leaders are a big factor in the location or even in
the nation. Having corrupt and position hungry politicians will reduce the politicians who
are willing and wanting to truly serve the nation of people. These are the reasons why even
up today vote buying is still a very loud contemporary issue that is yet to be solved.
Second reason why vote buying is illegal is because it is a form of bribery and there is a law
in the philippines where in indirect or direct bribery will be in prison for a certain amount
of time this is in accordance with the article. 211. Also with the republic act 7166 that talks
about election under these talks about other cheating metrics like vote buying since due to
vote buying the outcome of the governance might be poor and corrupt these are the reasons
why these laws are implemented.
Third reason why vote buying should be illegal is that it reduces people from holding
politicians accountable since the vote was not earned legitably but from payment of vote.
This also lessens people’s beliefs in the politician that was appointed since the role was not
appointed fairly but was appointed through cheating and through money. This is the
reason why once people know that a politician is issued with vote buying in the next
election or even their current role these people try their best to remove this politician.
An argument for why vote buying is “good” is because they say it is an economic service or an
economic exchange. Wherein you are given money in exchange for your vote so that the voters
will have money to buy products that the voters or even their family’s can enjoy. This is the
reason why vote buying is hard to stop since vote buying provides money to some people that
need it and these politicians truly know how to play with the voters strings.
In conclusion vote buying can be “good” but most of the time it makes people be blinded by the
money that these politicians give to them. This is the reason why change is very difficult to
achieve in the Philippines since bribery has become normalized from police to even simple
voters. If they truly want to serve the country they can always do it the right way by helping
people with their needs in a proper manner, campaign properly by going to community and
letting them know that you truly want to help and serve their community and even the country,
win or lose the politicians main goal should be to serve and to help our loved country and our
loved people.
