2. Two properties of solids are:

- Have a fixed shape

- Have a fixed volume

3. Two properties of liquids are:

- Can flow

- Have a fixed volume

4. Steam is a gas.

5. When ice cube melts, it becomes water. It is changing from solid to liquid.

When water freezes, it becomes ice. It is changing from liquid to solid.

6. In a mixture, the properties of each material are retained.

7. A mixture that contains different solids is called solid/solid mixture.

Example : mixture of sand and stone, mixture of nuts and raisins.

8. A mixture that contains solids and liquids is called solid/liquid mixture

Example : mixture of sand and water, mixture of stones and water.

9. Look the pictures.

11. A solid that can dissolve in a liquid to form a solid/liquid mixture is called solute.

12. Some solids can dissolve in liquids. They are called soluble solids.

Salt and sugar are soluble solids.

13. Some solids cannot dissolve in liquids. They are called insoluble solids.

Black pepper and sand are insoluble solids.

14. We can use a magnet to separate magnetic materials from non-magnetic materials.

15. We can use sieve to separate a mixture of sand and rice.

16. Study the table below.

Material Can it flow? Can it change shape?

N ✓ ✓

Classify Material M and N as solid or liquid.

Material M: Solid

Material N: Liquid

How does Alvaro tell that the salt has completely dissolve?
No salt be seen in the water.

18. Some marbles and water were added to the beakers shown below.

b. The water can fill up the beaker without any gaps. Because water is a liquid and does not have
a fixed shape.

19. In a water treatment plant, a system operator helps to make sure that the water is safe for
