I. Introduction

Simulation is a very powerful tool for evaluation and analysis of the

new systems and the existing ones. The applications that simulation has today,
they cover various fields and seem to have no limits. Currently, simulations are being made of the

behaviors down to the smallest parts of a mechanism, for example, the

development of epidemics, production plants, bank branches, growth of
populations of animal species, among many others.

To simulate is to artificially reproduce a phenomenon or the input-output relationships of a

system. Simulation can be defined as the technique that imitates the functioning of a
system of the real world when it evolves over time. This is generally done by creating
a simulation model. A simulation model commonly takes the form of a
set of hypotheses about the functioning of the system, expressed with relationships
mathematics or logics among the objects of interest in the system. The simulation process
includes the execution of the model over time, generally on a computer, to
generate our representatives of performance or functioning measurements.

This tool has not always been as we know it today, due to factors
how the globalization of business operations and the intensive use of
information technologies, which we call 'new economy', simulation has suffered
changes and modernizations that facilitate its use and representation, as well as its efficiency.

Simulation in recent decades has seen an increase in its use within the industrial sector.
and commercial due, to a large extent, to the development of computers, which
they constitute a valuable tool for the application of this technique.

Computer simulations originated simultaneously when they

they started to develop the invention of computers. In the 90s, the
simulation reached its maturity when many small businesses began to use it
early-stage simulation of their projects, where they could really have greater
impact. At the same time, the arrival of high-speed processors expanded the
number of applications, and with it, the number of theoretical and practical problems
affordable. The spread of personal computers and the emergence of packages

simulation that are programmed in graphical environments, and also with capabilities of
animation, allows the simulation to spread widely as a tool for the
design and analysis in various sectors of both the manufacturing industry and
services.

The use of simulation has expanded to the leisure sector and has entered the family realm.
with sophisticated software products that utilize many of the resources of the
computer: powerful graphics, databases, intensive computing, etc.

In this new economy, companies seek to be able to quickly introduce new

products and services to attract customers, and often the designs of the product and of
the production processes must be flexible enough to allow for the incorporation of
the new features demanded by a growing market. The processes with
ability to respond quickly, economically, and appropriately to requirements
the client rests on the following four factors:

II. Discrete event simulation.

Discrete event simulation is an analytical tool that is spreading.

quickly in the business environment, very useful to support decision making
decisions related to production planning and inventory, and with the
design of production systems and their supply chains. Thanks to the various

available software has allowed for a wide dissemination of this tool both in the
academia like the industry.

An event-driven simulation or discrete event simulation uses a model of

discrete states, where, based on certain initial conditions, the model generates
new events on the march (obeying some statistical property). This type of
simulation, identifies systems in which events change state at instants
spaced in time, unlike systems whose state can change
continuously over time.

To exemplify this tool, we can think of the available money in an account.

banking, as it can only change as a result of a deposit, or as a result
of a retreat. Another example could be the simulation of a restaurant, due to the fact that
the variables (number of customers waiting in line, number of customers seated in a
specific table, average waiting time, etc. change at certain points in the
time.

Most manufacturing and service systems are simulated as simulations of

discrete events.

The main applications of discrete event simulation in manufacturing are

they relate both to the design and arrangement of the facilities as well as to the planning and
the control of productive activities. The applications related to design and
The arrangement of the facilities includes the evaluation of decisions on the number, type
the arrangement of machines and equipment, the location and size of the different spaces
for the material in process, and the requirements for conveyors and support equipment,
among others.

III. New frontiers of simulation.

The simulation has been developing for several years and expanding its applications in
practically all existing branches, and it has moved from being an exclusive tool to
to be within everyone's reach.

This tool has been vital for predicting activities from aviation to
transportation route planning to ensure decision-making for any
the future action is the indicated one.

There are endless applications in different areas such as, for example:

• Medicine, where it is becoming less necessary to have an amphitheater of bodies.

educational institutions replacing it with robotic bodies that even simulate the
human respiration and chronic diseases and symptoms. This allows students
practice without limits.

• The military, as the article states, conducts simulations for everything, such as sessions.
training so realistic that puts soldiers in situations that seem to
they are in the middle of an armed confrontation. They also simulate the broadcasts,
airstrikes, etc.

• Supply Chains. This is a very broad topic that involves the great
most companies that have a complete production system, from production and
manufacturing of products that starts from the production of raw materials to the
end customer. This entire process can be simulated, like transportation planning,
movement and production times, quality process, purchasing/sales, to do
sales forecasts and market studies, all of this and more is simulable and allows you to do
a very well-made decision.

The simulation aside from productive applications or to improve the effectiveness of some
processes, it can also be used in the entertainment industry, such as for example
video games. Video games are a simulation of some reality, real or fictional where
one can drive a car, be another person, and now with the rapid advancements in the
technology, we have moved from a hands-operated control to using Virtual Reality
where the simulation involves your whole body now. Now with VR headsets you can be
in one second in one city and another second in another knowing a museum and all the works
of art. Just as you can be an animated character who knows martial arts.

6
Another application in the entertainment side is in animated movies or series.
animation is another simulation of reality for which you no longer even need actors to
make an Oscar-winning movie.

In conclusion, simulation is here to stay. It is one of the technological innovations.

most useful in history if not the most relevant in every sense, since without it
and the design of experiments, any verification or project such as
performance of a car or the internet speed that we use on our cell phone,
it would take much longer to become a reality. For example, in this last one
application, the reception of calls and internet on our cell phones. Without careful
preliminary simulation showing that the emitted radiation does not affect the body

Medical studies confirm that this technology indeed causes no harm.

IV. Conclusion.

The advantages of applying a simulation model in planning and management

The strategic role within an organization or company is undeniable, not to mention the great
influence that this tool has left in fields such as medicine, the military sector,
transportation, among many others.

Definitely, when using this tool with potential clients, there are factors
like customer expectations, the randomness of the circumstances that may arise
to present, the availability of the client's cooperation, etc. That can affect us in the
results, however with experience and trial and error one can develop and
be prepared for when these issues arise.
