Tests your ability to balance while
standing on a moving platform.
Sinusoidal harmonic
acceleration – Evaluates how well
your inner ear and brain work
together to maintain balance.
Middle ear endoscopy – Uses
a tiny camera to look inside your
middle ear for infections or other
issues.
Audiometry- HEARING

Tympanogram – Checks
how well your eardrum
moves, helping to detect

Auditory brainstem
response (ABR) –
Measures how your brain
reacts to sounds to check

1. What is Otosclerosis?
o A condition where
abnormal bone growth
in the middle ear (near
the stapes bone)
causes hearing loss by
preventing sound from
passing properly to the
inner ear.
2. What is a Stapedectomy?
o A surgical procedure to
remove the damaged
stapes (a tiny bone in
the middle ear) and
replace it with a
prosthetic device to
restore hearing.
Labyrinthitis – Inflammation of
the inner ear (labyrinth), usually
due to infection. It can cause
dizziness, balance problems, and
hearing loss.
Benign Positional Paroxysmal
Vertigo (BPPV) – A common
cause of vertigo (a spinning
sensation). It happens when tiny
calcium particles (canaliths) move
into the wrong part of the inner
ear, affecting balance.
Ototoxicity – Damage to the
inner ear due to toxic substances,
often from certain medications (like
strong antibiotics or chemotherapy
drugs). It can lead to hearing loss
or balance problems.
Acoustic Neuroma – A tumor
on the 8th cranial nerve
(vestibulocochlear nerve), which
controls hearing and balance. It
can cause hearing loss, tinnitus,
and dizziness.
TENNITUS CAUSED MED : ANTI
DEPRESSANTS
Tinnitus – A ringing, buzzing, or
hissing sound in the ears, even
when there is no external noise. It
can be caused by exposure to loud
sounds, aging, or ear damage.
