Assignment #2 Module 3

1. Give five different definitions of the term "hero":

• For historians, heroes are nationalistic individuals who defended Philippine

sovereignty.

• For government administrators, heroes are overseas workers who help the
economy.

• For environmentalists, heroes are those who preserve and protect nature.

• For the ordinary Filipino, heroes are people who do good without expecting
anything in return.

• In modern society, heroes are often seen as individuals with strong personality
traits—able to interact with others respectfully and effectively.

2. Give at least two specific examples of the different factors that have influenced
the shaping of Dr. Jose Rizal's heroic personality:

• Education – Rizal was exposed to liberal ideas through his education in the
Philippines and Europe, shaping his reformist mindset.

• Colonial Injustice – Witnessing the abuses and discrimination under Spanish

rule motivated him to fight for Philippine freedom through his writings.

3. Give at least two specific examples of the different factors that have influenced
the shaping of your own personality:

• Family upbringing – Values such as respect, discipline, and responsibility were

taught at home.

• School environment – Being active in school activities helped develop

leadership and communication skills.
4. If the ideal Filipino citizen is described as being socially concerned, productive,
morally upright, and patriotic like Dr. Jose Rizal, how would you rate yourself on
a scale of 1 to 10?

- 8, Because I strive to be responsible, respectful, and helpful to others, but I still

have room for growth and improvement.

6. Using the criteria presented in the reading, are OFWs worthy of being called
heroes? List at least three reasons.

Yes, OFWs are worthy of being called modern-day heroes because:

• They remit dollars to support the Philippine economy.

• They sacrifice time with their families for the welfare of their loved ones.

• They contribute to global competitiveness by working hard abroad and

representing Filipinos with dignity.

7. Aside from OFWs, give two people you consider heroes and justify it with three
reasons each:

Person 1: Frontline Health Workers

• They risk their lives during health crises like COVID-19.

• They provide critical care to the sick and vulnerable.

• They continue to serve despite lack of rest and resources.

Person 2: Teachers

• They help shape the minds and values of the youth.

• They work hard despite low salaries and limited materials.

• They inspire us students to be responsible and productive citizens.
