EXPERIMENT 3
TRANSFER FUNCTION OF THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS
PRELIMINARY WORK
1. What is the step response of a system? What does is show? (10)
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
1. Finding The Transfer Functions of a Circuit
a) Take the resistance of the resistor is R (Ω, ohm), the capacitance of the capacitor is C (Farad),
the inductance of the inductor is L, the Voltage value of the source is V (Volt), the voltage value
on top of the capacitor is Vo(t)(Volt) and the voltage value of the source is Vi(t)(Volt). Write
the transfer functions H(s)=Vo(s)/Vi(s) for figure 1.1 and 1.2 according to those values.
b) Accept that the R=1 KΩ, C=10 uF find the transfer functions according to those values.

c) Find the transfer function of figure 1.3 (Vo is the voltage value on top of the L) with the values given
in part b and accept L= 10mH.
Figure 1.3
2. Matlab Graphs
a) Open the Matlab.
b) Write the transfer functions of each figure to Matlab.
c) Observe BODE, poles-zeros and step response of each system with MATLAB

QUESTIONS:
1. How can we use the transfer function of a circuit? What is the benefit of finding the transfer
function of a circuit? (10p)
2. Write the transfer function of figure 1.3 for the given values, and add the BODE diagram, step
response, and poles-zeros graph. (10p)
3. Take the R1=R2=1 KΩ, C1=C2=10 uF, L1=3mH, and find the transfer function of figure 2.1.
(Vo is the voltage value on top of the L1) (35p)
4. Implement the transfer function of figure 2.1 to Matlab and plot the BODE, step response, and
poles-zeros graph. (35p).
