INTEGRATING HISTORICAL ROOTS TO ENHANCE PASSENGER

EXPERIENCE

Abridged Rationale (Limit to 150 Words):

The redevelopment of Tabang Terminal in Guiguinto, Bulacan, presents a unique

opportunity to integrate the town’s rich cultural heritage into its transportation infrastructure.
Guiguinto, known for its historical significance as a stop on the Manila-Dagupan railway, thriving
horticulture, and skilled artisanship, offers a wealth of inspiration for innovative terminal
design. This thesis aims to explore how the integration of these historical roots can transform
Tabang Terminal into not only a functional transport hub but also a cultural landmark. By
incorporating local history, traditions, and artistry into the terminal's architecture, landscaping,
and exhibits, the project seeks to enhance the passenger experience, fostering a deeper
connection between travelers and the town’s identity. Additionally, the redevelopment aims to
promote local pride, tourism, and economic growth, while preserving and celebrating
Guiguinto’s heritage. Ultimately, this project strives to create a terminal that serves as both a
transportation gateway and a reflection of the community’s culture and history.

Proposed Main Problem:

How can the integration of Guiguinto, Bulacan’s cultural heritage into the redevelopment of
Tabang Terminal enhance the passenger experience and promote the town’s identity?
Proposed Sub-Problems:
1. How will the terminal serve as a cultural gateway to promote Guiguinto to tourists and
travelers?
2. How will the terminal enhance its user’s experience and functionality?
3. What design strategies can ensure that cultural elements remain relevant and
accessible to future generations, both in the terminal and in the wider community?

Proposed Research Objectives:

1. To identify appropriate features that showcase the town’s agricultural history, traditions, and
festivals, turning the terminal into a cultural gateway for visitors and residents alike.

2. To create a passenger-centric environment that integrates cultural elements into functional

spaces, making the terminal not just a transit hub but a cultural experience.
3. To implement Sustainable Design Strategies to Preserve Cultural Elements for Future
Generations.

This qualitative research employs a multi-faceted approach to deeply explore cultural

identity, passenger experiences, and community perspectives in designing a culturally
integrated terminal. A case study method examines existing projects that successfully blend
culture and functionality, offering valuable insights. Interviews with residents, artisans,
architects, government officials, and cultural experts highlight the symbols, materials, and
design elements essential to Guiguinto’s heritage. Focus group discussions with community
members provide diverse perspectives on integrating cultural elements into the design. Lastly,
document analysis of historical records, planning documents, and heritage reports establishes
the historical and cultural context to guide the terminal's conceptualization.

THE ROLE OF INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENTS FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN

Abridged Rationale (Limit to 150 Words):

The proposed design research aims to develop inclusive spaces for children with autism
in Malolos City by creating a community center that fosters a safe, supportive, and engaging
environment. Children with autism often face challenges in accessing spaces that cater to their
sensory, social, and developmental needs. This research will explore how design elements such
as spatial layout, sensory-friendly materials, and interactive spaces can enhance the well-being
and engagement of children with autism. By incorporating autism-friendly features, the
community center will provide a therapeutic and educational space that encourages
socialization, learning, and personal growth. The project will also focus on ensuring accessibility,
safety, and comfort, while promoting inclusion and understanding within the community.
Ultimately, the goal is to create a model for inclusive design that can be replicated in other areas,
offering children with autism and their families a dedicated space for care, connection, and
development in Malolos City.

Proposed Main Problem:

How can the design of a community center in Malolos City be optimized to create inclusive and
supportive spaces for children with autism?
Proposed Sub-Problems:
1. What are the specific environmental design elements that can support the sensory,
social, and developmental needs of children with autism in a community center setting?
2. How can the layout and spatial organization of a community center be structured to foster
inclusivity, accessibility, and safety for children with autism?
3. How can the use of materials,
colors, and lighting in the
community center design
enhance the comfort and sensory experience for children with autism?

Proposed Research Objectives:

1. To identify and incorporate environmental design elements that support the sensory, social, and
developmental needs of children with autism in a community center.

2. To plan the layout and spatial organization of the community center in a way that fosters
inclusivity, accessibility, and safety for children with autism.

3. To utilize materials, colors, and lighting in the community center design to enhance comfort and
create a sensory-friendly experience for children with autism.

Proposed Methodology (Narrative Form – Limit to 100 Words):

This research employs a mixed-methods approach to comprehensively understand and

address the design needs of a proposed community center for children with autism. Qualitative
methods include case studies of existing autism-friendly spaces to analyze successful strategies,
interviews with experts and caregivers to gather insights, and focus group discussions to
understand sensory preferences and spatial needs. Observational studies will examine
children’s interactions within different environments. Quantitative methods involve distributing
surveys to collect data on preferred features, conducting post-occupancy evaluations to assess
design effectiveness, and performing space utilization studies to measure the impact of
environmental elements on children’s comfort and engagement.

THE IMPACT OF SCHOOL GREEN SPACES ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND

BEHAVIOR OF STUDENTS WITH ADHD: A CASE STUDY OF STELLA MARIS ACADEMY OF
MALOLOS

Abridged Rationale (Limit to 150 Words):

The study of the impact of school green spaces on the academic performance and
behavior of students with ADHD, specifically at Stella Maris Academy of Malolos, is essential to
understanding how environmental factors contribute to student well-being and learning
outcomes. Students with ADHD often face challenges such as difficulty focusing, impulsivity, and
hyperactivity, which can hinder their academic performance and social interactions. Green
spaces have been shown to reduce stress, improve attention, and promote emotional regulation,
offering a potential solution to enhance the learning environment for these students. This case
study will examine how the presence of green spaces at Stella Maris Academy influences the
academic performance and behavior of students with ADHD. The findings could provide
valuable insights for schools looking to improve the educational experience for students with
special needs by creating environments that foster concentration, reduce anxiety, and support
overall cognitive and emotional development.

Proposed Main Problem:

How do features of school green spaces influence the academic performance and behavior of students
with ADHD at Stella Maris Academy of Malolos?
Proposed Sub-Problems:
1. How do the design elements of green spaces, such as layout, vegetation, and seating,
affect the attention and focus of students with ADHD?

2. What role does the visibility and accessibility of green spaces play in reducing impulsive
behavior and increasing emotional regulation for students with ADHD?

3. How does the integration of natural elements, within green spaces impact the academic
environment and social interactions for students with ADHD?

A mixed-methods approach will be utilized to gain a holistic understanding of how green

spaces influence students with ADHD. Qualitative methods include interviews with students,
teachers, and staff to explore perceptions of focus and emotional well-being, focus groups to
uncover students’ personal experiences and preferences, and case studies to provide in-depth
insights into individual behaviors over time. Quantitative methods involve surveys to measure
perceived improvements in focus and emotional regulation and observational studies to track
attention span and impulsivity in green versus non-green environments. This combined
approach ensures a comprehensive analysis of both subjective experiences and measurable
outcomes.
