Abstract : The Wireless data transfer in underwater environments poses significant challenges due to the absorption and
scattering of signals. This project explores an innovative approach to underwater wireless data transmission using Arduino,
integrating DHT11 and LDR sensors with infrared (IR) communication and LCD display. The DHT11 sensor collects temperature
and humidity data, while the LDR sensor measures light intensity. The gathered data is transmitted wirelessly via IR signals,
which are received and displayed on an LCD screen. This study demonstrates the feasibility of short-range underwater
wireless communication using IR, highlighting its potential applications in underwater monitoring, robotics, and
environmental sensing.
Introduction : Wireless data transfer in underwater environments presents unique challenges due to the high attenuation
of electromagnetic waves in water. Traditional communication methods such as radio frequency (RF) and Bluetooth are largely
ineffective underwater, necessitating alternative approaches like infrared (IR) communication. This project explores the
feasibility of underwater wireless data transfer using an Arduino-based system that integrates DHT11 (for temperature and
humidity sensing) and LDR (for light intensity measurement) sensors.
The collected sensor data is transmitted wirelessly through IR signals and displayed on an LCD screen. IR communication is
chosen due to its reliability in short-range underwater applications, making it suitable for marine research, underwater
monitoring, robotics, and environmental sensing. The system is designed to be energy-efficient, cost-effective, and easily
deployable for various underwater applications.
Object/Aim : One of the key objectives is to design and develop a reliable underwater communication system that utilizes
IR technology for wireless data transfer. The project focuses on integrating DHT11 and LDR sensors with Arduino to collect real-
time environmental data and transmit it wirelessly using IR signals. The data is then received by a dedicated module and
displayed on an LCD screen for monitoring purposes.
Another critical goal is to analyze the performance and feasibility of IR-based communication underwater by assessing factors
such as signal attenuation, transmission range, and environmental interference. The system is designed to be cost-effective,
energy-efficient, and scalable, making it suitable for marine research, environmental monitoring, and underwater robotics
applications.
