UNIT 5

The Madina Charter

Q.No1: Why did the Holy Prophet (SAW) abolish the tribal distinction in Medina?
Ans: Topic: The Madina Charter
Theme: Peaceful Co-existence
Abolishing Tribal Distinctions:
The Holy Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬abolished the tribal distinction in Medina in order to create harmony and
cooperation. He was a great statesman and knew that for the creation of an Islamic Empire, the unity
and goodwill of the dwellers of Medina was unavoidable. He then grouped the residents of Medina
under one general name, Ansar. This is an Arabic word which means helpers.

Qno2: What did the UN adopt unanimously?

Ans: Topic: The Madina Charter
Theme: Peaceful Co-existence
Ans: Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
On the 10th December, 1948; the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It tells us about the basic rights of a human being. Our
Religious, personal, civic, political, economic, social, and cultural rights are protected by this
declaration. There are thirty points in all. Primary education, freedom of thought and expression,
protection against discrimination and no torture are a few of them.

Qno3: How do we know that Islam is the protector of Human Rights?

Ans: Topic: The Madina Charter
Theme: Peaceful Co-existence
Islam is the greatest protector of Human Rights:
Islam is, certainly, the greatest protector of Human Rights. What Islam explained fourteen hundreds
years ago about Human Rights, was confirmed by the UN assembly in 1948. The inclusion of the
clause of the Medina Charter in the UN Declaration of Human Rights shows that Islam is the greatest
protector of Human Rights. We have been advised time and again in the Holy Quran and Hadith to
never hurt any creature of Allah.

Qno4: Define the tolerance and give examples from the text.
Ans: Topic: The Madina Charter
Theme: Peaceful Co-existence
Tolerance means to give respect to others’ opinion and belief, and to let them behave and act
according to their mindset. We should not enforce our opinion on others. Live and let other live
according to their beliefs, is an excellent formula to practice tolerance in our everyday life.
Following are the examples of tolerance from the text:
1. The Medina Charter, because of its rule of accepting people of other religions and letting
them practice their faith freely.
2. Quaid-e-Azam’s quote, in which he said that all people of Pakistan are equal citizens of the
state regardless of their caste or creed.
3. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with its emphasis on freedom to practice one’s
own religion and the right to live a life without being discriminated against.

Qno5: We must honour our words. Why?
Ans: Ans: Topic: The Madina Charter
Theme: Peaceful Co-existence
We must honour our words always because it is our moral duty, and our true religion also teaches us
to do so. A true Muslim always honours his words. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) says that those
who don’t keep promise, tell lie, and dishonest to trust, are not amongst us. We should always keep
our words and promise because it is our obligatory duties towards our fellow beings.
