Letter received from the Director and Superintendent of the Regional Insfitute of Ophthalmology and Goverment Ophthalmic Hospital, Egmore, [Link]. 2441/16/2021, dated 08.06.2021 Order: In the Government Order first read above, orders have been issued that the drivers of Government Vehicles should undergo Medical tests, as indicated below:- Age Less than 40 years 3 No test 40 to 52 years a Once in 3 years After 52 years a Once in a year For the above purpose, free eye camp shall be conducted by the Health department. It was also ordered that if any driver is declared unfit for ae 2 continuance in the same post by doctors, because of eye defect, or any other ailment, he will be provided with alternative employment in posts like Helpers or Office Assistants, depending upon their qualifications, by retaining the same pay scale. Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu Basic Service Rules has also been amended vide G.O.(Ms) No. 60, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (F) Department, dated 06,03.2007. 2. In the reference second read above, during the final inspection of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Inspection) Department (now Human Resources Management Department) in the Public Department, conducted on 01.10.2018, the final inspection Officer ie., the Principal Secretary to Government, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Texfiles and Khadi Department, among other things, has suggested fo issue necessary orders to get the fitness certificate along with eye sight and hearing / reflex testing certificate to Drivers who are working under the control of Public (Motor Vehicles) Department, once in a year for the age group of above 40 years and once in two years for the age group of below 40 years. 3. In this regard, the Director of Medical Education, Kilpauk, Chennai-10 and the Director and Superintendent of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Egmore, Chennai have, after convening the meeting with the Medical Professionals, suggested the following procedures to conduct medical tests (eye sight and hearing/ reflex tests) for drivers of Government vehicles, working in all departments, as below:- {i) Below 50 years — Once in two years (ii) Above 50 years — Once ina year 4. The Government after careful examination have decided to accept the suggestion of the Director of Medical Education, Kilpauk, Chennai-10 and the Director and Superintendent of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Egmore, Chennai and accordingly direct that the Drivers of Government Departments should undergo Medical tests, as indicated below:- Age Periodicity Below 50 years | Once in 2 years Above 50 years | Once in a year 3 5. The Government also direct that, if any Driver is declared unfit for continuance in the same post by doctors because of eye defect or any other ailment, he will be provided with alternative employment in posts like Helpers or Office Assistants, etc., in the Tamil Nadu Basic Service, depending upon their qualifications, by retaining them in the same pay matrix cell, as provided in the Special Rules for Tamil Nadu Basic Service (BY ORDER OF THE GOVERNOR) MYTHILI K.
