Quantifiers

We can use these quantifiers with countable and uncountable nouns:

all, no, some, any, more, most, a lot of, lots of

Some and any

some any
- positive sentences - negative sentences
I bought some clothes. I didn’t buy any clothes.
- offers and requests - questions
Would you like some coffee? Did you buy any milk?
Can I have some soup, please?

much and many

much many
- with uncountable nouns in questions and - with countable nouns in questions and
negatives negatives
How much money have you got? How many people were at the party?
There isn’t much milk left. I didn’t take many photos on holiday.

In positive sentences, we use a lot of / lots of with both countable and uncountable nouns.
There is a lot of pizza.
There are a lot of apples.

A few and a little

- with countable nouns - with uncountable nouns
There are a few biscuits left. We only have a little salt.
