Cleaning In Place (CIP)
Where does a decanter get dirty when used?

Take a close look to the coming

picture and I hardly need to tell
you

Pollution of the Decanter during Operation
Also the conveyor body and the inlet
area in the screw conveyor might be
dirty

Mist from process liquid Layer of solids between Mist from process
accumulating in the decanter body and screw solids accumulating in
casing conveyor tip the casing

Cleaning of the Decanter during High
Speed CIP
☺ High capacity of cleaning solution cleans the external piping
The solids discharge is still dirty
The casing is still dirty all over
The bowl is still dirty

Cleaning of the Decanter during High
Speed CIP
☺ With CIP-pipe with nozzles the dirt in the casing is washed off
☺ Clarified liquid from the decanter liquid discharge can be used for the
nozzles provided:
Vane paring disc
Back pressure via CPM-valve of 2-6 bar
The bowl is still dirty

Cleaning of the Decanter during Low
Speed CIP
☺ With Tumbling of the decanter at approx 1 x g and feed of CIP-solution the
internal liquid acts as liquid in a washing machine
Solids at the bowl wall is washed off
Conveyor body and flight is cleaned
Add CIP-solution through the dosing hole in the inlet pipe and spacing
between inlet pipe and proteting pipe is cleaned as well

Lubrication – Consideration

• Process temperature
• Cleaning requirement
• Frequency of stop/start

[Link]
Lubrication – Main bearing
• According to the Instruction manual (section 3.8 & 3.9). Also
application supplement.
• Monitor bearing temperatures during the normal processing run & just
before CIP
• Ensure that temperatures are stable & not rising before greasing.
Allow time to check this (Suggest below 75°C if possible)
• After every 48 hours operation.
• Only grease slowly during low speed CIP (50 to100 rpm)
• Allow at least 24 hours between greasing
• 2 strokes on each bearing every 48 hours. (Careful with the bearing
temp)

Lubrication – Main bearing (Auto)
• According to the Instruction manual (section 3.8 & 3.9).
Also application and technical supplement.
• Check setting of pump to give 0.5g of grease for every 5
minutes.
• Set lubrication interval to every 6 hours with 5.0 minutes
running time.

Lubrication – Conveyor bearing
When to grease
• According to the Instruction manual (section 3.8 & 3.9)
• Greasing after machine comes to a full stop.

Amount of grease used

• According to the Instruction manual (section 3.8 & 3.9)

Venting - Decanter

Air Flow is not possible due to BD seal

Air Flow is limited by the feed and discharge connection
Air Flow when discharges are open or correctly vented
Air Flow When venting is not correct

Venting - Decanter
Reason for Venting
• To ensure correct air flow within the machine.
• Avoiding contamination of the bearing.
• Avoiding contamination of the product.

Method of venting
• Open venting via vent pipe (Vent box)
• Force venting with fan and air pump.
